People are always changing, and not every decision we made in the past is one we would make today. For some people, that could be something as inconsequential as a dated haircut, but for others, they might find that their past actions were more problematic and don’t measure up against their current belief system.
Bryce Dallas Howard discussed her relationship with that in a new interview .
In 2011, Bryce starred in *The Help.*
The Help , which was directed by Tate Taylor, was based on a novel written by Kathryn Stockett about Black maids working in white households in Mississippi in the 1960’s. The film has come under criticism for being directed by a white person and for framing a story about Black people’s struggles through the lens of a white woman, played by Emma Stone.
Bryce, who played Hilly Holbrook in the film, recently encouraged people not to watch the film and to instead watch films by Black filmmakers.

When asked why, Bryce responded , “Right now, in this time, stories are going to play a crucial role in our ability to empathize and to be inspired into action. And the storytellers who we must listen to right now and look to and learn from — there’s an extraordinary body of work that centers on Black characters from Black creators.”
When asked if she would take the role in *The Help* if it were made today, Bryce responded, “No.”

“But what I will say is: What I’ve seen is that folks have the courage to say that. ‘With all due respect, I love this project, I do not think you could be the filmmaker.’ That’s a really powerful thing to say,” she continued.
“That’s an important stance to take in order to make room for the true authentic storytellers.”

“In this transformation that’s happening, there’s a new freedom of expression,” Bryce explained. “I’m seeing from others — and feeling from myself — that it is less about worrying about offending people and looking within and saying, ‘Why? What really am I scared of, and what is that reinforcing?’ And so I posted it and didn’t look back,” she revealed.
“For myself, I want to be an active ally.”

We respect Bryce for her honesty and her commitment to making sure she’s doing everything she can to stand up for and abide by what she believes in!
