Leonardo DiCaprio is a man of many passions — most famously, of course, is acting, but second to that he is known for his environmental activism. Leo’s passion for the environment is famous, which is why a claim made by the Brazilian President surprised many.
President Jair Bolsonaro spoke to supporters last Friday and delivered a surprising message.

“Leonardo DiCaprio is a cool guy, isn’t he?” Bolsonaro said , before adding, “Giving money to set the Amazon on fire.”
These comments are following a large police raid at the headquarters of two non-profit groups in the Amazon.
There are several volunteer firefighters associated with these non-profits who are being investigated for allegedly igniting fires to obtain funding through these non-profits.
Leo responded in an Instagram post.
“At this time of crisis for the Amazon, I support the people of Brazil working to save their natural and cultural heritage. They are an amazing, moving and humbling example of the commitment and passion needed to save the environment,” he wrote.
“The future of these irreplaceable ecosystems is at stake and I am proud to stand with the groups protecting them.”
Leo then denied being involved with the specific non-profits targeted by these investigations, stating, “While worthy of support, we did not fund the organizations targeted.”
Leo ended his note with an assurance that he’s not stepping back from his passions.
“I remain committed to supporting the Brazilian indigenous communities, local governments, scientists, educators and general public who are working tirelessly to secure the Amazon for the future of all Brazilians.”
