Following the wildfires which broke out in Los Angeles, California on 8 January, efforts to raise relief funds have been increasing, one of which is a charity concert that will be held on 30 January to raise funds to help those affected by the fires.
The event is called FireAid and will feature a variety of known performers with ties to California.
FireAid aims to gather relief funds
The charity event FireAid will take place in two separate venues at the same time on 30 January, with both stages being in California.
The aim is to raise funds for relief and resources to help those affected by the LA fires which were first sparked on 8 January.
The event will be in two venues
The relief event is separated into two concerts which will take place at the same time, one at the home of the LA Clippers American football team, the Intuit Dome, and the other at the Kia Forum.
Both stages are in the Inglewood area of California.
Artists with ties to the city are playing
Celebrities performing at the charity event are those with ties to the city of California.
Among those are Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Sir Rob Stewart, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Joni Mitchell, Katy Perry, Gwen Stefani, Stevie Nicks, Earth, Wind & Fire and Pink.
The lineup extends even more
Other artists in the lineup for FireAid also include Gracie Abrams, Sting, Green Day, Jelly Roll, Stephen Stills, Dave Matthews & John Mayer and Tate McRae.
Some will be playing in the Intuit Dome and others at the Kia Forum. It is still unclear exactly which artists will play in which venue.
LA fires have caused serious tragedy
The LA wildfires, which spread on at least three fronts from 8 January, the day they had first been sparked, were described by the Los Angeles’ fire chief Kristin Crowley as one of the worst natural disasters in the history of California.
Many have been displaced by the fires
The fires which caught onto homes and streets in the Pacific Palisades, Altadena and Pasadena areas have caused 27 deaths as well as the displacement of tens of thousands of Los Angeles residents since they first started in early January.
Firefighters are still trying to gain control
The fires are still ongoing with firefighters still trying to get ahold of around 40,000 acres of wildfires as of Friday 17 January.
As of Friday, the Pacific Palisades fire has only been 27% contained, while the Eaton fire has been 55% contained, according to Sky News.
Donations have been rolling in
Since the fires broke out in early January, millions of donations have been rolling in to help those who were displaced.
Those include donations from The Walt Disney Company who donated $15M and singer Beyoncé who gave $2.5M to help with the relief funds.
Short-term relief is being prioritized
The Annenberg Foundation will be handling all the money raised from the charity concert.
Donations will go to short-term relief services aimed at aiding the displaced and long-term initiatives put in place to prevent any future fire disasters in the city.
Tickets go on sale on Wednesday
Tickets for the FireAid event go on sale on 22 January at midday local time and those with tickets will only be able enter one concert, not both.
FireAid will also be streamed live for those who can’t attend on Apple Music, Apple TV, Max, iHeartRadio, KTLA+, Netflix/Tudum, Paramount+, Prime Video, the Amazon Music Channel on Twitch, SiriusXM, Spotify, SoundCloud, Veeps and YouTube.
