Planning a wedding can be very stressful because brides always want things a specific way. Sometimes, brides can be pushy and picky about what they want, and it can impact other people in the families of those getting married . Other times, brides can be so unreasonable, we can’t even fathom that anyone wants to marry them in the first place at all.
One Reddit user opened up about some recent drama surrounding her brother’s wedding.
The Reddit user she and her brother, “Nate,” have been close for their whole life. But, when he began dating “Emily,” things changed. The Reddit user and Emily don’t get along and see eye-to-eye on things. They just aren’t meant to be friends. So, it’s put a wedge between them.
Nate and Emily are getting married and decided on a “kid free wedding.”
“They’re having a “child-free” wedding. But in Emily’s eyes, a child is anyone under twenty-one years old. I know, dumbass rule. Originally, I wasn’t allowed to be there for the ceremony or reception. I told Nate how much it would hurt to not be there for his big day, so he ended up convincing Emily to let me stay for the ceremony,” said the Reddit user.
Now, Emily agreed that Nate’s sister can come, with a catch.
“We had a family dinner earlier this week and Emily brought up that she would like to have a daycare service for the children of her guests at the wedding. And somehow, she mentioned that she would love for me and my boyfriend to look over the kids,” she added.
While it sounds okay, it turns out, it was more than a few kids.
“We were on board with it until we heard that we’d be watching 40-ish kids for six hours, and only get paid $50 each. We agreed that we’d do it for $150 each, but Emily insisted on her original offer,” she added.
Clearly, the Reddit user didn’t want to watch 40 kids for $50 at her brother’s wedding.
“The more I refused, the angrier Emily got. She proceeded to tell me that I was being a greedy, selfish brat, and that I should be paying her since she’d be giving me practice for my teaching career. And then she said that if I don’t do this, I will ruin her wedding and won’t be welcome at the ceremony,” the Reddit user said.
The entire dinner was just awkward after that.
The Reddit user said that Emily was basically screaming at her in the restaurant so, everyone was staring. She and her boyfriend paid for their food and left. Now, her entire family is saying she’s wrong because “she should want to do anything to make the wedding day go flawlessly.”
The Reddit user also said she would have babysat for “no money.”
Truthfully, as the Reddit user is studying to be a teacher, she said she would have babysat for free, but she stood her ground because she is tired of Emily being so nasty and rude to her.
Even if she won’t be at the wedding, she said she’s standing her ground.
A lot of Reddit users think that Emily is wrong in this situation.
“Honestly, what I’m hearing here is ‘we’ve made a wedding where the age cut-off point mysteriously excludes you, the person the bride doesn’t like, and when you’re given a reluctant invitation to attend anyway, we’ll scramble to create a job that will get you out of my sight for most if not all of the time,'” said one Reddit user.
Others said Nate is wrong, too.
“Nate is an ass. His fiancée is being an absolute brat to his sister and he’s doing nothing to stop it. If his wedding is ruined, they’re the cause. Not you.

Many said two people watching 40 kids is not safe, either.
“It’s not about the money though…it’s a matter of safety. 40 kids (and I’m guessing the ages vary wildly) is not feasible for 2 adults, across 6+ hours. This isn’t within the context of a classroom, or an athletic team,” said another person.
And, many said this whole thing is insane.
“This whole situation is ridiculous. Excluding a 20-year-old SIBLING of the groom because a wedding is “child-free” is ridiculous. Expecting you to do really hard work for almost no money while you’re being excluded is ridiculous. Stick to your guns now because this is the kind of person who will push boundaries forever if you don’t,” shared someone else.
Yikes, this is family drama forever written all over it.
