Aspiring Russian actress Kamilla Belyatskaya, 24, was in Thailand with her soon-to-be husband, enjoying her time there, only to be met with some murderous waves while meditating.
These waves tragically sent her to her grave days before her wedding. Her death left her fiancé grieving and in shock about what had happened.
Enjoying Koh Samui
Belyatskaya was with her fiancé in Koh Samui, Thailand, to enjoy some time together before their wedding, which was supposed to be held in Russia in mid-December. Little did they know that their fun trip would have a tragic plot twist.
The day of her death
According to her fiancé, she was supposed to be playing Tennis, but he didn’t know that she made a detour to some nearby ocean rocks on 29 November.
She was performing a solo yoga meditation on her pink mat on the ocean rocks when waves swept her and her mat away.
The aftermath
Belyatskaya struggled with the waves as her mat floated on the water’s surface.
Bo Phut Police was informed of the incident at 1:30 p.m., when a man jumped in to try to save her, but to no avail, after rescuers came to the scene about 15 minutes later.
Her body was found later
A few days later, Belyatskaya’s body was found around two-thirds of a mile from the spot where she had been doing yoga.
Chaiyaporn Subprasert, head of the Samui Rescue Center, warned civilians about “high-risk” areas surrounding the local beaches.
Belyatskaya’s last words
Before her death, she described Koh Samui as “the best place on earth.” She wrote online: “I love Samui so much, but this place, this rocky beach is the best thing I’ve ever seen in my life. Thank you, universe, for me being here right now. I’m very happy. I’m happy!”
Reactions to her tragic passing
Many viewers took to social media to give their condolences and express their feelings about the whole incident. One viewer said: “That’s terrifying. Condolences to her family,” while another said: “Wow I’ve never seen waves like that in Thailand, unfortunate that this had to happen.”
“The ocean has no mercy”
Other viewers continued, saying: “Such a heartbreaking tragedy. My thoughts are with her family and loved ones.” And another one wisely added, “The ocean shows no mercy. One moment you’re living your best life and then the next moment, you’re gone.”
Beware the monsoon season
Subprasert told the Khaosad English about the dangers of the ocean during monsoon season, saying: “During monsoon season, we constantly warn tourists, especially at high-risk areas like Chaweng and Lamai beaches, where red flags indicate no swimming.”
Her fiancé’s take on what happened
Belyatskaya’s fiancé, Grigorii Anokhim, expressed his grief and shock, having learned about his deceased fiancée’s death through social media.
He was “devastated” and instantly found himself in the area where she was, looking for her, but to no avail.
Samui City Municipality has responded
According to the Khaosad English, after Belyatskaya’s passing, Samui City Municipality responded to the tragic incident by closing access to the rocky area below the Laad Koh viewpoint.
This was done to allow local authorities to establish a marine search for Belyatskaya.
