Abbey Humphreys, a real estate finance marketing professional and content creator, posted on TikTok naming everything she hates about showers that mimic rainfalls, pointing out that they are particularly annoying for women to use.
It may seem fancy at first

The bathroom feature may seem a fancy one at first, and indeed has become prevalent in hotels and resorts as a sign of luxury home building. But for Abbey, they’re quite impractical for a woman to use.
“Whoever the f**k decided that rain showers were the end-all-be-all of style and design, I take umbrage with you, I have beef with you,” she started in the TikTok video. “Because you hate women, you’re anti-women, and I’ll tell you why.”
She started explaining why she dislikes it

In the video, Abbey gave two reasons as to why rain showers aren’t practical for women, saying, “Number one, I don’t wash my hair every time I shower, and I feel that there are many women who agree.”
She then starts to demonstrate what it’s like to try and avoid getting your hair wet while under a rain shower. I mean, it’s certainly a familiar experience.
The second reason was feeling overwhelmed

She shared her second reason as to why the shower design is bothersome, adding, “Number two, I also don’t wanna feel like I’m getting f*****g waterboarded every single time I take a shower. It’s immersive. I can’t breathe.”
Abbey started asking rhetorical questions

The angry content creator started asking questions like, “What is this? Is this male-centric design, or is this just a fad?”
“’Cause I need them out of my life, I need them out of my f*****g face,” she added.
She also pointed out that it’s seen as a luxury

Abbey was also upset that the bathroom feature was seen as a symbol of luxury, saying, “Every time you walk into some s****y little shiplap f*****g Airbnb, you better believe it’s gonsta have a rain shower. And this is listed as a benefit, as a perk, as an amenity. ‘Rain shower!’ You and your rain shower?”
People in the comments agreed with her

The video has now racked up 4.9 million views and thousands of comments, and Abbey isn’t the only one who has a bone to pick with the design, as many agreed with her. One person wrote in the comments, “You get water boarded yet somehow so many parts don’t get the water.”
Others also pointed out that the water pressure rarely ever feels right, with one person writing, “lack of water pressure makes it impossible to actually wash long hair.” Another also said, “The water pressure is so low I feel like I’m not actually getting clean.”
Users also chimed in about other inconveniences

People started listing other things that are inconvenient about rain showers, not just that they force you to do acrobatics to avoid getting your hair wet or that the water pressure is bad.
“It’s also SO HARD to clean your lady bits,” one person wrote. Another also said, “I can’t just prop up a leg because the water is coming from directly above me instead of at an angle!”
Abbey further criticized the design

In speaking with Buzzfeed, the content creator said, “Have you ever walked into a space and thought to yourself, ‘A man designed this?’ Let’s use a bathroom as an example — a distinct lack of a hook for your bag and jacket, no shelving or sink space on which to place your things, terrible overhead lighting and nowhere appropriate to get ready, and, perhaps, a f*****g rain shower.”
To Abbey, the design was clearly by a man

She continued, “These design choices are so clearly executed by men and tailored to men, who carry less things on their person, don’t need as much space to get ready, and don’t mind being waterboarded by a f*****g rain shower.”
Some might find this unimportant
Abbey pointed out that this issue might be seen as a “champagne problem” and she understands why so, but then she added, “However, I do believe that such design choices are a symptom of a larger problem. Spaces are designed with only half of the population in mind!”
