Do you ever see a picture and wonder what’s going on in there? Sometimes, you just can’t tell what’s going on without a little bit of context. But when you get it, suddenly everything makes sense.
These pictures are pretty cool, but only after learning about its backstory. Even if that backstory is pretty short. Trust me on this; they make so much more sense with that bit of context.
“A house in my city is built on top of a bunker from WWII.”
This house looks like a normal house. Well, except for the weird concrete structure it sits on top of. But knowing that the house is on top of an old WWII bunker makes a lot more sense. I wonder if the bunker acts like a basement for the house?
“Mushrooms growing out of my old mop.”
Well. Even with the context, this doesn’t really make that much sense. The only think I can think of is that this mop is used and cleaned so infrequently, the bacteria it collected allowed mushrooms to grow. Which, when you really think about it, it just plain gross.
“My dog found a huge bone at the beach today.”
To be honest, this photo is pretty odd. If I didn’t know that the dog is standing next to a giant bone, I’d think it was some kind of weird propeller. But it’s still a little confusing, even knowing what it is. Why did just this bone wash up?
“My toast landed like this on its own.”
You may be thinking that someone did their best to balance that toast on the toaster. But really, it popped up and landed that way. I’m not sure which is more impressive: it landing like that on its own, or someone doing it on purpose. Either way, it’s cool!
“My kid helps with farm chores carrying feed with his ride-on. The grain he’s spilled has sprouted by the pedals.”
It probably would’ve never dawned on me that all of that weird grass near the pedals is the result of sprouted grains. I would’ve probably thought it was just someone’s rather weird idea of decorating. I wonder if they’re going to keep all that grain.
“A pinecone before it’s a pinecone.”
You know, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pinecone grow. These ones just look like random little growths of needles along the tree. To think that they’ll eventually become those weird, brown things we see on the ground. You learn something new every day.
“Two eagles have decided to build a nest right outside my grandma’s window on the 12th floor.”
I’m not going to lie, if there was no caption, I probably wouldn’t know what I’m looking at.
But wow! A couple of eagles chose this woman’s window to build their nest! So high up, too. You basically can’t get rid of that, so I guess enjoy the view?
“Conjoined bluegill with four eyes caught in the Finger Lakes in NYS.”
I wonder what has to happen for a fish to end up looking like this. Are they, like, more susceptible to mutations than other animals? Because I feel like a lot of things like these end up being caught or washing up on shore. And no amount of explanation really explains anything.
“Tomato plant growing in concrete.”
Seems like an ordinary weed, right? Wrong! It’s a tomato plant! I seriously hope it ends up growing fruit, because that would be sooo cool. Nature really does find a way to survive no matter what.
Seeing as tomato plants are perennials, this one may pop up next year, too.
“Red Bull exploded in the freezer and the pull-tab froze to the ceiling.”
You know how some freezers get ice buildups inside of them? Well, this one has a frozen Red Bull buildup. Like many other carbonated beverages, Red Bull doesn’t fare too well in the freezer. So don’t leave it in there for too long, unless you like cleaning up.

“An ant farm in my bird box.”
Well, at least one kind of animal was able to make use of this bird feeder. It just sucks that, rather than being used for birds, it got taken over by an ant colony.
…Is that really what an ant colony looks like? I would’ve just thought that there’s weird dirt or concrete all over the box.
“This old jaw bone looks like wood.”
Imagine finding this, thinking it was a piece of driftwood, and leaving it where you found it. It has so much more of a story to tell than any old piece of wood, especially considering it isn’t that at all. I wonder what kind of animal it came from.
“Funky looking lemon our tree gave us.”
Yeah, if it weren’t for the caption, I’d be completely stumped. It almost looks more like a weird yellow Cheeto than a lemon. But looking at it a little closer, you can see the texture of the skin, and the lemon shape on the bottom end. Nature is so weird.
“Scalded my hand on some ramen, and a noodle left a lightning mark on my hand.”
Luckily, that mark will go away pretty quickly. But it’s so hard to believe how easily something like this can happen.
Also, it can’t just be me who sees a face on this person’s hand. Like, the lightning-shaped mark looks kind of like a mouth, and the knuckles are the eyes.
“Captured this vintage but realized later that there are 2 cats.”
It looks just like a normal car with a cat sitting next to it. That is, until you realize that the old Mercedes has “CAT” written on its licence plate. So in a way, it is in fact a picture of two cats, even if one of them isn’t actually a cat.
“When you live on an island in Maine…”
If I saw someone carrying an entire fridge around on a boat, I’d be super confused. But some people live on islands that are only accessible by boat, so I guess they’d have to get things there somehow. Man, we really take roads for granted, don’t we?
“This extra long spaghetti stick, only one like it in the box.”
No, this isn’t an unusually skinny pair of chopsticks. It’s one, continuous piece of spaghetti pasta that probably wasn’t cut in the factory. On the plus side, it looks like it’ll still cook the same, so you could just stick it in your boiling water and have a super long noodle for dinner.
“The overspray from the blue paint I was using today turned my arm hair blue.”
Thankfully, this isn’t a new trend. People aren’t dyeing their arm hair on purpose. This is just the result of someone spray painting without any sleeves on. I’m sure the paint will come off (eventually), but in the meantime, it won’t hurt to take a few pictures to remember it.
“My apartment complex rented out 200 goats to eat away at the overgrown path and riverbed behind our buildings!”
I don’t really think there are too many explanations as to why so many goats would be in a single area. But this one at least makes a little sense. The goats do what they do best (eat everything), and the people get a clear path. Everyone wins!
“This completely-sealed bag of pretzels has only 1 pretzel inside.”
This single pretzel wouldn’t be as interesting if the package were already opened. But the fact that, somehow, a pretzel pack contained a single piece is really strange. Unless… is that what 100 calories of pretzels really looks like? If so, I’ve definitely eaten way too many in my time.
