There are so many stray dogs out there and no matter how much we might wish we could save them all, it’s simply not possible. Most of us are limited to doing what little bit we can to make a stray’s life easier.
We give it food, maybe somewhere warm to sleep, but taking them into our home is impossible.
In a recent viral video, TikTok user Kxnuko shared a glimpse of a stray he and his co-workers at a New Mexico Subway restaurant keep happily fed.
According to Kxnuko, they have dubbed the dog “Subway Sally.”
She always waits by the door for them to bring her an assortment of meats and cheeses.
According to follow-up posts and comments, Sally is kind of the neighborhood’s dog.
If they don’t come with her food quickly, Sally will go to the Taco Bell across the street, but Subway is her clear favorite.
Some commenters questioned how a stray can look so clean and healthy.
Well, Sally obviously gets plenty of food, and Kxnuko says that the florist next door has taken it upon herself to regularly bathe her.
Many also insisted that Kxnuko should take her home or to a shelter.
However, he explains that with five cats at home, he can’t afford to have a dog. Additionally, he lives in a very poor area with many stray dogs and few resources.
The closest shelter is about 20 miles away and is known for its high-kill rate.
If Sally seems happy and healthy, why would it be better to take her to a place where she’d be locked up and possibly euthanized?
He also says that people have tried “rescuing” her before, but she always comes back.
Besides living a pretty decent life for a stray, Sally has had three or four litters in the time since Kxnuko started working at Subway. So if she has puppies hidden somewhere, she’d want to return to care for them.
And of course, because this is the internet, people also started complaining about how Sally wasn’t getting a balanced diet.
I mean, yeah, bacon every day isn’t ideal for a dog, but she’s being fed. Kxnuko did say he’d try to aim for more turkey and chicken going forward, though.
