There are many things in life that can be described to be terrible nightmare situations . For many, getting seriously injured or hurt is definitely up there on that list. Injuring yourself and ending up in a coma and missing a large portion of your life is something that people think only happens in movies . But, it can happen in real life, too.
25-year-old Brie Duval has a story that seems like it’s straight out of a TV show.
Duval was living a great life, moving from Australia to Canada. She was working at a great job and she even was in a healthy, happy four-year relationship.
One night out, however, changed everything.
In August, Duval was out with some friends for a night on the town when she suffered from a traumatizing and unthinkable accident. Duval fell from a car park that had ongoing construction going on.
One wall was left unfinished, with no tape or signs.

Without any warning that there was no support or wall there, Duval ended up falling headfirst from the car park and landing on the pavement. She was then airlifted to the University of Alberta Hospital.
Duval suffered a brain injury and several broken bones.
With a brain injury, things can be uncertain. Duval was in a coma for four weeks and doctors told her parents that she only had a “10% chance” of surviving the fall.
However, her parents did not give up hope.
Duval’s parents refused to listen to doctors and kept her on life support. Fortunately, she was able to come out of her coma and regained consciousness, putting pieces of the fall and the night out back together.
When she was given back her phone after her coma, what she saw was devastating.
Duval, who had been in a four-year-long relationship with someone—even living with her partner—found out that he had left her for someone else during her time in the hospital.
She found out from people he had not come to visit her.
Being with someone for four years, one would think that they would want to come to visit their girlfriend in the hospital. But, he hadn’t gone to visit. So, Duval wondered if he had even known bout what happened.
Turns out, he had blocked her entirely on social media and “ghosted her.”

She went into her social media to try and see what he was up to but she was completely blocked on social media—which, was surprising to her.
And, he was seeing someone else, too.

“So I opened my phone going to message him when a message pops up from this woman that says I am now with [partner’s name]. I have moved him out. He’s now living with me and my son, please do not contact him,” Duval told The Mirror .
What made things even worse was that her parents were unable to come from Australia to Canada to be with her.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and travel restrictions, Duval’s parents were unable to fly and go to the hospital to be with her. Fortunately, one of her friends came to visit her every day and drove 8-hours to be at the hospital.
Now, Duval is living her life with a traumatic brain injury and sharing her story on social media.
“It’s a struggle because the thing is, you’re not visibly disabled. Like visibly you would look at me and think I was in perfect physical, and mental health. I don’t look like I have a brain injury but it’s a huge part of my life,” Duval told The Mirror .
