It seems that nowadays, all of our favorite Disney classics are being remade into live-action films, and The Little Mermaid is no exception.
But instead of casting somebody that looks like the red-headed Ariel that we’re familiar with, Disney has taken a different approach by casting Halle Bailey — and we all want to get to know her a little better.
“The Little Mermaid” is one of the most classic Disney films of all time.
So naturally, it’s important that we know a little bit about the woman that is going to be bringing our beloved “Ariel” to life.
The stakes are definitely high, but we think Halle is going to be the perfect fit.
First thing’s first, as I mentioned, she was recently cast to play “Ariel” in the live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid”.
At just 19 years old, Halle has just landed the leading role in the Disney classic, The Little Mermaid .
“After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance — plus a glorious singing voice,” the director of the film wrote in a statement.
“All intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role,” he added .
She will be joining an amazing cast that includes Awkwafina, and Jacob Tremblay.
And rumor has it that Melissa McCarthy will be playing the iconic role of Ursula.
Many fans confused Halle Bailey with Halle Berry — thinking the role went to her instead.
Their names are very similar — it’s an easy mistake to make.
But no, Halle Berry, 52, will not be playing Ariel in The Little Mermaid .
However, Halle Berry did congratulate Halle Bailey on landing the role.
Which I can only assume was because a ton of people were tagging Halle Berry instead of Halle Bailey.
Halle will be the second black Disney princess.
The first black Disney princess was “Tiana” from The Princess and the Frog , voiced by Anika Noni Rose as an adult and Elizabeth M. Dampier as a child.
Halle is one half of the popular singing duo “Chloe X Halle”.
Although The Little Mermaid might be her big break, Halle had already dipped her toes in the entertainment industry by starting a music duo with her sister, Chloe.
She has also starred in the television show “Grown-ish”.
Halle and her sister’s music is featured on the show and they were actually both cast on the show Grown-ish to play twins, “Skyler and Jazlyn”.
Halle and Chloe are not actually twins in real life.
Although they pull off looking like twins, the two are actually two years apart. Halle was born in 2000, and Chloe in 1998.
She earned her first ever acting credit playing the role of “Tina” in Queen Latifah’s 2007 comedy, “Last Holiday”.
Not bad for her first acting gig!
Beyoncé has been Halle and Chloe’s mentor.
Queen Bey brought Chloe X Halle on tour as her opening act during the European leg of The Formation World Tour .
They’ve also opened for Beyoncé and Jay-Z during the U.S. leg of the “On the Run Tour II.”
And if that wasn’t enough, they were also incorporated into the visuals of Beyoncé’s visual album, Lemonade .
Halle and her sister earned a nomination at the 2019 Grammy Awards.
Not only were they one of the notable performances of the evening, they were also nominated for “Best New Artist” for their album “The Kids Are Alright.”
Fans on social media seem to be thrilled at the decision to introduce more diverse princesses in Disney films.
