There’s really no television show that has the kind of legacy and impact of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit . The show has been on the air since 1999, making it older than some of our children, and honestly, more successful than some of them too!
The massively popular series owed a lot of its early success to the two beloved lead cops that started the show: Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson.
Detectives Stabler and Benson were the heart of the show for the first twelve seasons.

While Olivia has gone on to continue to do great things on the show as well as up her rank to captain, many longtime fans of the show were devastated when after season 12, Stabler was no longer a member of the team.
While Chris Meloni is reprising the role as Elliot Stabler both in a spin off series and as a guest-spot on the 22nd season , he opened up about how he isn’t ever planning on returning to SVU full time.
“That, I didn’t want to do,” Chris said about returning to the show as a regular cast member.

“That felt like going back to what was. That boat had sailed,” Chris said, adding that he felt like the character definitely needed to mature into something new. “I don’t want, you know, a fifty-something Elliot Stabler stomping around, unable to control his anger anymore.”
“That’s not an attractive thing to watch,” Chris said.

When asked how much he missed the gig on SVU , Chris was just as blunt, answering “Zero.”
“I would have no problem admitting to it. But I was pleasantly surprised it played out as well as it did,” Chris added.
