Becoming a homeowner is a massive milestone in so many people’s lives — and an equally important milestone in that person’s life is their first altercation with their local HOA !
One couple recently took to TikTok to document their response to their HOA telling them that they had to take down their pride flag . And boy, did they respond well.

TikToker “julia.ensign” shared their story after receiving a message from their HOA.
The voicemail came from the manager of the HOA, and explained that she wanted to have a chat with Julia and Julia’s partner Abbey about their pride flag just so that “we’re on the same page” regarding an email that the couple had received.
Julia then read through the email that the HOA had sent over…
The email essentially claimed that by having their pride flag on their porch, Julia and Abbey were being “very public about issues that may be divisive of the community and may affect the peaceful enjoyment by all.”
Shockingly, the email also claimed that the HOA had asked everyone else in the neighborhood to remove all signs and flags as well, only for Julia and Abbey to find out that this was a lie after asking around.
So, Julia and Abbey responded in the best way that they could think of…
Upon realising that they were the only people to have received this email, they knew that their only course of action was to put even more pride decorations on their porch!
The new decorations included a rainbow welcome mat, a rainbow pillow with the phrase “love wins” written across it, and a cloth rainbow to hang from their hanging baskets.
They did this to show their son that there was “nothing divisive about his family.”
Julia also went on to say that the couple also wanted to show that there was “nothing wrong with our community, we are proud of it and we want our son to be proud of his family.”
Julia also added that the flag is indeed still flying!
It seems as though Julia and Abbey’s local HOA got the message.
The video of Julia and Abbey’s story has since gained over 80, 000 likes, with a plethora of people sharing their love for the idea. Some people even suggested that Julia and Abbey go one step further and paint their entire house into a rainbow!
