We’ve discovered, in the 21st century, that the interconnectedness of the world is decidedly a double-edged sword. Yes, on the one hand, it’s easier than ever to do business around the globe. At the same time, it’s a little too easy to lose your privacy.
You hardly even know who all has your data now, or where details of your life might be posted on the internet — or what someone might do with what they find out about you.
So surely you can imagine the shock when this Reddit user received a text message out of the blue.
And not the kind you get from your provider to let you know you’ve hit your data limit for the month. No, this was altogether creepier .
“Too weird” is an understatement for a guy who contacts a strange woman looking to cheat on his wife based on a profile pic.
It’s not just weird, it’s highly inappropriate. And even though there might have been a “suggested connection” on Facebook, she says she has no idea who he is.

“I don’t know who his wife is,” she wrote in a comment.
“I don’t know who he is either,” she added. “He never revealed his name.” So she got dragged into this situation based completely on an algorithm and a profile pic.
She says her Facebook profile is all private, so he literally only had her profile pic to go on.
And when she tried to bring up how creepy he was being, he wasn’t having it. “He refused to see why I thought it was inappropriate and overstepped so many boundaries,” she wrote.
So she tried to do a little sleuthing of her own to even find out who the creep was.
But she couldn’t get anywhere based off the number she was receiving the texts from. “I have literally no idea who this guy is,” she wrote. “When I googled the number it just gave me a region with that area code.”
Moreover, she wanted to find out who the wife was so she could let her know that her husband was a creep.
But so far, no luck. And she doesn’t want to be too obvious about her attempts, with good reason. “I don’t even want to be caught up in it, if that guy is balsy enough to pull that then who the hell knows how crazy he could be, ya know?”
One theory another user shared speculated that perhaps the wife was the one texting in the first place.
“It was the wife pretending to be the husband,” they wrote. “While my comment is meant to be humorous, the skeptical part of me wouldn’t be surprised.” I’m not sure if this is the sort of thing people do to try to catch their SO’s in the act, but it seems like a stretch to me.
Whatever the case, it’s definitely inappropriate and highly creepy.
The guy basically admits to internet stalking her, wanting to cheat on his wife, knows he’s never actually met this person, and yet thinks she’ll be receptive? Yikes.
So, naturally, the other users on Reddit roasted the heck out of the guy.
Since he gave up his number, some folks suggested she put it to good use on other sites. “Put an ad up on Craigslist for a free Golden retriever puppy with his phone number included,” wrote one. “Make a Grindr account with his phone number listed,” added another.
Folks have kinda seen this type of thing before. “I imagine this type of guy would be the type who stalks girls and doesn’t think it’s ‘too weird,'” wrote another user.
“‘Hey, I followed you home 15 miles from Best Buy, I just thought you were so beautiful and want to say hi,'” another summed up.
Just in case anyone was already on that, Reddit did call him out on his spelling, too.
“AND he used the wrong discreet. There’s no hope for this guy,” one user wrote.
Hey, this guy deserves every single ounce of scorn he receives. As another user summed it up, “Color him disgusting.”
