There are a lot of neat things you can just take at face value. But with some things, if you look a little closer , you might find a little more than you bargained for.
Take these pictures, for instance. Take a closer peek, and see some things you may have never noticed were there in the first place. Or at least, you may not have noticed if you were there in real life.

This red onion that has a white onion section in it.
Red onions have that signature purplish tinge (even though they’re called red), which is very distinctly not white. Still, it would probably be pretty easy to overlook this colorless section if you weren’t paying enough attention.
I wonder if it tastes any different.
“The sharp edge of whipped icing on this cake I made at work.”
Cake decorating is a true art. Unless you can do it yourself, you may not appreciate how much effort it takes to get that smooth, clean edge. So lets keep looking at this satisfying close-up and respect the artist who did this.
“Hurricane Ida peeled this tree like a banana.”
I’m not even going to think about the amount of force it took for this tree to get peeled like that. Nope. I’m going to focus on the way the bark on the inside looks. Because that’s at least a pretty cool sight to see.
The lizard-shaped markings on this wooden fence.
Does that part in the fence not look like a cute little lizard? I mean, it’s cute as long as it doesn’t magically start moving or anything.
Actually, it almost looks realistic enough that you could probably be fooled from far enough away.
A little crevice created by constant water pressure.
So, is that little sprinkler always running? Or is there a leak in there or something? Because that seems like a bit of a waste of water, especially since it’s going into some concrete.
But man, it must’ve been going on for a while to create that tunnel.
“X-ray of my bird with an egg.”
An x-ray of an animal is fascinating enough. But if you look closely, you can actually see the egg inside of this bird! That’s super cool, but also terrifying when you think about the size of the egg versus the size of the bird…
“The way my mom mows crop circles into the lawn.”
Even from far away, you could tell that something pretty funky was going on with this lawn. But look a little closer, and you can see the cool spiral designs all over the grass! It seems like it would take a lot of effort, though.
“Bee trapped in Amber. Approximately 25-35 million years old.”
I bet from far away, you wouldn’t be able to see the little bee inside of that amber gem. And while the pendant…isn’t quite my style, I can appreciate how all the detail works together to create a very unique design.
This house has a bunch of little birdhouses on it.
Aw, man. If only we could get an even closer look at all the little birdhouses lining the roof of this place. That would be so awesome.
I only hope that, when you’re inside this house, those birdhouses don’t make things too noisy.
“A pair of wire strippers in a crane game.”
This is a really random assortment of things. But the most random thing in there is definitely the wire strippers. I wonder if they ended up there by accident or if someone actually put them in there as a prize. Has to be the former, right?
“Something is wrong with my mum’s lemons.”
From the outside, these lemons look (mostly) normal. But the flesh on the inside is almost nonexistent. That actually really sucks, because it makes the size of the lemons seem so misleading. Oh well, can’t win them all I guess…
“This positive graffiti.”
Yeah, there’s definitely worse graffiti in the world. At least this one is telling people not to do bad things.
I think not hurting people or taking their stuff should be, like, words to live by or something. Someone needs to put that phrase on a motivational poster.
“A spider had made a spider web inside of a leaf.”
The one thing about spider webs is that they’re kind of hard to see. Which is the point, of course, but it can sometimes mean missing out on some cool designs.
If it weren’t for the tears in the leaf, we wouldn’t even know there was a web there to begin with.
“Date printed on the sour cream instead of the lid, which was missing.”
Something’s telling me you shouldn’t eat that. Not just because it has ink on it, but because it was never properly sealed to begin with. In fact, it’s looking a little too yellow to be any good.
At least the photo is kind of cool.
“A tiny brick flat in London.”
There’s something really sad about this picture. Maybe it’s the fact that the little purple guy can barely fit in that apartment. It kind of reminds me of how housing and rent prices in some regions are getting so high, you can barely afford a room bigger than that brick.
“Coworker found a “motion picture use” $100 on our construction site.”
Aw, man, it would’ve been so cool if that was an actual $100 bill. But it’s good that prop money is very clearly marked as such. It would kind of be illegal if it looked too realistic, after all.
“The scratches on the back of the truck look like an ocean painting with waves. It also looks like it has a bird and a dolphin.”
Yeah, if you look closely enough, you can totally see the bird and dolphin on top of those waves. It’s amazing how the most random shapes will end up in the most random places.
The way the reflection on this building makes a little pattern.
Hey, that’s actually so cool! The pattern looks a lot like a dog bone, or like a DNA double helix. It’s amazing how light and reflections can make things appear totally different than how they actually look.
Now, if only we could get a little closer…
These friendly (and not so friendly) neighborhood house decorations.
I wonder how many people have driven by this house having no idea that Spider-Man and the Green Goblin are decorating it. Because they do a pretty decent job of blending in, so I wouldn’t be surprised if people who weren’t looking closely enough never even saw them.
“I think I’ve found the most perfect strawberry I’ve ever seen.”
I can’t tell you how long I’ve stared at this closeup of a strawberry. It’s really mesmerizing in its own way. Probably because, as the caption says, it’s practically perfect. It’s like the real life version of every cartoon strawberry that’s ever existed.
“Ended up with two pennies from 100 years apart.”
The cool thing about this is the way you can see all the minute details that each coin has. The 1920 one is a lot less shiny than the 2020 one, but they still share so many similarities. That’s kind of amazing!
“Crab-shaped croissant.”
Apart from having a little crab face and crab claws, that croissant looks kind of big. It must’ve just been shaped really weird by whoever made it. Maybe it was left out to rise a little longer too. I dunno. But I’m not going to complain about the shape.
“This 0% discount on gum.”
I’m sure that, at a glance, it looks like there’s a discount in there. But the price difference is a single cent, which isn’t even enough to make a difference. It’s almost like they’re hoping people will see the sign and take the candy without paying attention.
“The way I drop my SIM-Cards…”
The tricky thing about SIM cards is that they’re so tiny, they could get lost really easily. And they’re kind of important, you know, if you want to be able to make phone calls and access your mobile data.
But the way this one fell is pretty cool, not gonna lie.
“The corrosion on this water tap looks like a map.”
Okay, that’s pretty uncanny. Every line looks like a border for a different country or region. And the little dots almost look like they could be names of locations, maybe in another language. Sucks that it’s caused by corrosion, but it’s way too cool not to love.
When the secret menu is an actual secret menu.
A lot of places out there have a secret or hidden menu, which is just a way of saying they’ll make things for you that aren’t on the regular menu. But this one… it’s real. And it’s tiny!
Good thing the menu comes with a little magnifying glass.
“These four rhea eggs are the equivalent of almost 45 medium chicken eggs.”
Those rhea eggs look like regular-sized chicken eggs. That is, until you look closely at the actual chicken eggs and realize the rhea eggs are huge . Makes sense, though, since rheas are big birds , Like ostriches, but not quite the same.
“The G on my Chromebook is in Times New Roman.”
If you’re on or near a computer right now, I bet you looked at your keyboard. Some keyboards keys have lowercase letters on them, while others have all caps. Some are in Times New Roman, and others are in Arial. A detail most of us have probably never noticed until now.
“My cup of tea is just full of stars (its just the ceiling light reflection).”
What one person might consider to look like stars, another might think of as weird, spider-looking things. Whether or not it gives you the creeps, you have to admit that the effect is actually pretty cool.
The little L and R on these socks to show you which foot they go on.
For some people, I’m sure this would really come in handy. But as someone who didn’t even know there was a dedicated left and right sock, I’d probably just lose one and wear two right socks anyway. But it’s still a neat little detail.
