Whenever we go on vacation or stay somewhere overnight, we are often charged a “cleaning fee.”
This is the fee that hotels, Air BnBs, and other logging places charge us to clean and make sure that our rooms are sparkly fresh. But, when we really investigate, is everything truly clean? Sometimes, while we think our hotels and lodging locations are clean, they are actually far from it.
A recent video that went viral on TikTok from a user named Alyssa proved this to be true.

Alyssa, who has a TikTok channel filled with cleaning tips and hacks, showcased that when she goes on vacation to a hotel, she always does the “paper towel test” to make sure that the floors in the bathroom (and the room) are clean.
In the video she shared, the floors were far from clean.

Spraying some cleaning product on the floor and then wiping it up with a paper towel, she showcased that the hotel that she had just checked into was far from clean.
After paying for a new, “cleaned” hotel room, she was clearly unhappy.
I would not be happy if I paid for a hotel room that was dirty like this.
Paying high prices for hotel rooms, I would definitely not be happy if I came in and it was this dirty.
Many hotels do charge high prices for their “experience” and cleanliness, but this is definitely far from clean at all.
Some people in the comments, however, claim it doesn’t matter.

Some commenters on TikTok said that if you’re “not eating off the floors” it shouldn’t matter if they are a little dirty.
Alyssa, however, said that if she has to pay for the hotel’s “cleaning fee” that she was not going to accept such a dirty floor.
Another commenter said you only get it if you work for a hotel.

A commenter said that if you are a cleaning person at a hotel, you’d understand that all rooms cannot be deep cleaned.
There are far too many rooms to turn around for check-in and check-out so, there is not a lot of time to deep clean floors like this.
Housekeepers also chimed in and agreed.

Other housekeepers for hotels said that they hardly have 20 minutes to clean most rooms before they have to be turned over for another check-in.
Some said that they focus on the beds and other things like towels because those are important.
However, others online agreed with Alyssa.

Many commenters sided with the TikTok user saying that this is totally not acceptable, especially with how much hotels charge for stays and cleaning fees.
Many said they would “not” accept this for a hotel they had booked and paid for.
One user said that she has a rule for hotels because of this.

One TikTok user said whenever she goes to a hotel, she never walks barefoot specifically because she knows that they hardly ever clean the floors like this.
She makes sure she has slippers or sandals with her in the hotels.
Some say they’re “definitely” packing extra from now on.

Some commenters said that they’re not going to pack cleaning solutions in their luggage when they stay at hotels because, they too, want to do the paper towel test to see if their hotels are clean or dirty.
Wow!
Others said that they bet her home isn’t that clean.

Other commenters said that Alyssa’s own home is not that clean probably and who is she to judge the hotel and other people for their floors.
So, Alyssa decided to check her own floors to compare to the hotel.
Spraying cleaner on the floor, she did the paper towel test.

While she claims that it definitely “wasn’t perfect,” it was way better than the floors of the hotel she was staying at. And, she didn’t have to pay the extra cleaning fee.
So, her floors are better overall and cost less.
