Pretty much all relationships have some secrets hidden away. However, while most people’s secrets can consists of hiding a stash of candy from their partner, there are some people whose relationships find themselves being built upon secrets which will have scarily large consequences if they get out.
One man recently took to Reddit’s True Off My Chest subreddit in order to share something which had been eating away at him — and it’s easy to see why.

The man started by prefacing that he was “not the one in the wrong for this” but that he “had to say it somewhere.”
“2 years ago when I was 19 I met this woman while I was working as a personal trainer. She was in her 40s and looked like a 25-year-old. She took an interest in me and invited me out a number of times and we had sex a few times. After one of our meet ups she said it was wrong for someone of her age to be with me because I was to young and changed gyms,” he started by writing.
While this was a seemingly innocent enough hook-up, things got weird once he met his now-girlfriend.
While he and his partner have been together for just under a year, he was recently invited around to meet her family — top marks for anyone who can already see where this is going.
“2 months ago I met her family for the first time and it was a shock. Like she took me to the house where I had hooked up with a woman and I felt like I was being pranked,” he went on to write.
“Before I see her mom it hits me. I have a type and they both fit that type so it make sense, I’ve been hooking up with a single mom and I’m now with her daughter.”
However, things inevitably got worse when his girlfriend’s dad appeared also.
When his girlfriend’s mother and father both appear, him and his girlfriend’s mother knew exactly how bad the situation was, as he went on to add, “they’ve been married for 20 years, I realize I had been a married woman’s boy toy, I feel incredibly ashamed.”
His girlfriend’s mother then also found a way to contact him privately.
“Later that week her mom finds my number and tells me that I can never speak of what happened. She says that my girlfriend will hate me forever because I’ll be the one who broke up her parents. So now I’m stuck keeping this secret,” he explained.
His girlfriend has also invited him to stay with them for Thanksgiving due to his family living over 1000 miles away, as he ended his story by writing: “So now I’m going to have to sit there at a table and enjoy thanksgiving dinner with the woman I had an affair with, her husband, and her daughter whom I am now in love with.”
There doesn’t really seem to be any easy ways out of this for anyone involved!
There were not many people who were providing many helpful responses to this guy’s heartfelt story, with one of the hottest takes being, “This sounds like an 80s movie.”
However, the majority of people asserted that it was his girlfriend’s mother who was primarily in the wrong as he did not know that she was married when they had hooked two years ago.
Still, this guy has one hell of a difficult situation to navigate…or one hell of an uncomfortable Thanksgiving dinner ahead!
While it would be a pretty damaging piece of information to reveal, telling his girlfriend the truth was what most people thought was the only real option. Even if he doesn’t tell her now and stays with his new girlfriend, then this information will just eat him up inside slowly but surely.
