Bride Enraged After Mother-In-Law Brings Her Husband's Ex To The Ceremony

Many brides and wives have a lot of issues with their mothers-in-law. Many moms have a hard time letting their son go, and giving him away to another woman. Others are just problematic people who thrive on drama and chaos. Whatever the reason may be, it's not uncommon to hear the "crazy MIL" stories from brides and wives leading up to their wedding day.

One bride, however, was left in the most awkward position at her own wedding—thanks to her MIL.

The bride shared the story on Reddit seeking advice as to whether or not she and her husband were in the wrong.

The Reddit user shared that she and her now-husband met four years after he had gotten divorced from his first wife (who she refers to as Mindy).

She said it was hard for her to blend into his family after he had gotten divorced.

"It was pretty hard for me to get accepted into his family, specially for his mother, she was so, so, so in love with Mindy and adored her as her DIL, they were pretty close and even got depressed after Mindy moved to another state since she didn't wanted to be near my husband," she said.

However, the two bonded over the loss of her FIL.

The bride said that the two bonded after her FIL passed away and she was there for her MIL. Her husband is the only child, so they were there for the MIL very often to help her grieve and console her.

The two had plans to get married, and then the pandemic hit.

The pandemic left them short on money so they wanted to have a small wedding, however, the MIL said otherwise. She offered to pay for the wedding, not wanting to miss it as her late husband had.

The two still kept it small, but let her MIL help and make decisions in the wedding.

The day of the wedding, her MIL showed up with a "special" +1 guest.

"When the big day came, she's Mindy by her side and my husband and I are confused, my MIL approached us and we asked her what was happening, she said that she'd invited her to the wedding because it was a special day," she said.

The couple was confused and angry.

They ended up asking the MIL to leave the wedding, and Mindy too.

"[My husband said] Mindy had no business being there and would appreciate if she left, my MIL looked at me and I said that I would rather that too, but my MIL got angry and said that she paid for the wedding and she could invite anyone she wanted," the bride wrote.

In the end, Mindy left, but the MIL stayed at the wedding "angry."

" She ended up saying that she's gonna stay but that we had to tell Mindy to leave which my husband gladly did and my MIL spent all the evening mad, after the wedding we offered to pay for half of it or even everything if she wanted but she said that the damaged was already done," the bride concluded.

She asked Reddit if they were wrong for asking MIL to leave over the altercation.

Many people online said they were definitely not wrong.

"This sounds like MIL was trying to do the old "bait and switch". Bring Mindy to remind the husband how much "he loved her" and they get remarried. This lady needs to be cut off for a while....or forever....," one person commented.

Others agreed, the MIL had some sneaky motives.

"She chose an odd and expensive way to try and break you and her son up. I think some time apart until she apologizes is the best for everyone," one person added.

"Cut her out. Do it now. She is toxic. She knew exactly what she was doing," another person added.

Do you agree?
