Many people struggle with hair health and keeping their locks long and shiny. When it comes to hair care, there are a lot of rules that people don’t necessarily know. For years, we have been damaging our hair through numerous outlets, such as heat, dying, and even using the wrong type of products.
Many women struggle with keeping their hair looking flawless, like the models on the runway or the women in shampoo commercials, but aren’t sure what changes they need to make.
Our hair is totally part of who we are.

Our hair is a part of who we are and how we present ourselves to others, especially when we first meet someone. A first appearance, for many, is super important. The color, shape, and length of our hair can make a difference in how someone approaches us—whether we believe it or not.
Having dull or lifeless hair can be a huge insecurity for many women.

Having hair that is not looking its best can be anxiety-inducing for many individuals. Some feel as though they have to hide it by putting it up and away from their face, or even wearing accessories to hide their hair for the time being. It can make individuals feel bad about themselves.
However, there are tons of ways we can help save our hair from the damage and the lifelessness it has.

Many hair professionals often share their tips and tricks for keeping hair healthy and shiny. For some women, the regular, everyday things they do are the reason their hair is so damaged, breaking, and thin. And, many women don’t even realize that they’re doing it.
A professional hairstylist on Instagram, Monica, shared some tips that we can all use and follow.

Monica shared that excessive heat is something that can damage a ton of people’s hair. Using things like blow dryers, flat irons, and curling irons too often can make your hair dry and brittle. Especially for those who are using these heat products on wet hair, the damage can be irreversible.
She also shares some tips for using heat.

Monica shares that if you do use heat, use a good heat protectant because it will ensure that your hair is sealed with a protective layer against the heat. You should, however, wait until the heat protectant and your hair has dried fully before applying the heat so that it’s not burning.
Another issue is the mechanical accessories we use in our hair.

Monica shares that many of the things we use every day on our hair, whether that be to brush and style our hair or even put it up in a ponytail, can be pulling and breaking our hair. Sometimes, it can even cause split ends and breakage.
The tips for this can be to use specific products for your specific hair type.

When you are going to use things like ponytail holders, brushes, or headbands—be sure you are using things that are appropriate to your specific hair type. If you feel as though your hair is pulling, change the products or don’t use them at all. In addition, use a detangler to make sure you can brush it out nicely.
Also, there are environmental factors that have an influence on our hair.

Many of us do not realize that the actual environment is giving us a ton of problems when it comes to our hair. From being out in the cold weather and wind to the harsh UV rays in the sun, these outside weather factors can be detrimental to our haircare.
Pro tip: always invest in a hat!

Monica shares that when you are going to be in “harsh weather conditions” like big winds or the blazing sun, invest in a good hat. Also, try to get yourself a good leave-in conditioner before you go into the pool or the ocean. And, get UV protection for the sunny days.
Last but not least, any hair dying has got to stop.

Many of us do chemical treatments on our hair, like bleaching and dying, so that we can switch it up and get a style we admire and want. But, all of this chemical harshness can truly put a dent in our hair health. Using specific bond treatments and chemical repairs can help to get our hair back to its full health.
