Every year, as the Oscars gear up to reward some of the best movies of the year before, the Golden Raspberries, or Razzies, gear up to do the exact opposite.
There are always going to be bad movies . Some fly under the radar, while others make a huge splash. Here are some of the movies awarded Worst Picture by the Razzies over the years.

2008: The Love Guru
You’d think any movie staring Mike Myers would be good, but you’d be wrong. This film was hated by critics, who gave it a 13% score on Rotten Tomatoes. But hey, the Razzies liked it.
2017: The Emoji Movie
The Emoji Movie is proof that not every movie idea is a good one, and that you can’t just make a story out of any old thing. But I seriously doubt anyone was expecting much from this flick.
1993: Indecent Proposal
Critics were a little less than lukewarm about this movie, giving it a 34% on Rotten Tomatoes. The consensus is that, despite the stellar cast, it just couldn’t deliver.
1981: Mommie Dearest
Despite this movie being objectively bad, it’s transcended into cult classic territory. Its incredibly campy nature couldn’t stop it from getting recognized at the Razzies, though.
1989: Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
This was the fifth installment in the original Star Trek film series, and is arguably the weakest of them all. In fact, it nearly destroyed the franchise . But the series bounced back in the subsequent film, so it worked out in the end.
1999: Wild Wild West
So fun fact, Will Smith turned down the leading role in The Matrix to be in this movie. And yeah, you could say that wasn’t the wisest decision. Luckily, it didn’t hurt his career too much.
2009: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
The 2007 Transformers movie is pretty nostalgic for me. But the follow-up was just… well, disappointing. And as it turns out, I’m not the only one who thought so.
1995: Showgirls
No one really knew what to think of Showgirls when it first came out. And I don’t think anyone knows what to think of it now. Like, it’s bad. But as the critics point out , was it like that on purpose?
2004: Catwoman
There have been plenty of iterations of the iconic Batman villain over the years, but the 2004 film starring Halle Berry was… well, let’s just say it won Worst Picture for a reason.
2010: The Last Airbender
As a fan of the original cartoon, this one hurt. It’s full of bad acting and even worse special effects, making it such a watered down version of the source material.
2015: Fantastic Four
This movie is truly forgettable, what with its impressively low audience score of 18% on Rotten Tomatoes.
It’s so hard to believe that Michael B. Jordan went from being a hero in a bad Marvel movie, to a villain in an incredibly good one ( Black Panther ).
2015: Fifty Shades of Grey
Yup, that’s right. 2015 was quite the year for bad movies, and the Razzies had to award 2 Worst Pictures. One of which happened to be Fifty Shades of Grey .
Need I say more?
2006: Basic Instinct 2
Objectively, Basic Instinct is pretty mediocre. And 14 years later, it got an incredibly forgettable sequel, for some reason. That’s probably why the Razzies had no problem giving it their top (bottom?) award.
1985: Rambo: First Blood Part II
This one was, well, a lot like the others on this list. In other words, not good.
Not to mention the fact that it was an action sequel, which meant it already had the cards stacked against it.
2000: Battlefield Earth
This movie was, like, exceptionally bad. So bad, you’d almost wonder if it was made that way on purpose. But hey, anything’s possible.
2011: Jack and Jill
Even as far as Adam Sandler comedies go, this one was super bad. And not even in the way where you could watch it just to make fun of it.
2018: Holmes & Watson
There are plenty of adaptations of Sherlock Holmes’ adventures out there, but critics and audiences agree that this one is probably the worst. No wonder it took home the Worst Picture award in 2018.
2012: The Twilight Saga – Breaking Dawn Part 2
The Twilight series is definitely one with a cult following. And while Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were both able to distance themselves from this movies (and the series as a whole), it took them a long, long time.
2003: Gigli
This movie was pretty terrible, and probably deserved to win back in 2003. The critics even complained about Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s lack of chemistry (ironically enough).
2019: Cats
Don’t worry, I didn’t forget about this one. If you ever had the misfortune of seeing 2019’s Cats (like I did), then you’ll know why it won that year’s Razzie.
