How many times have you stumbled upon a brilliant public space design that left you in awe? I love when that happens, and I say kudos to those architects that did a great job.
However, as much as we can all admire that, we can also shame those terrible ideas that seem to have missed the mark. I’m going to share just a few of these examples below because why not? Hopefully, they will inspire people to create more thoughtful spaces.

1. This Subway Camera Location
I don’t know about you, but I already feel uneasy going somewhere for the first time, especially on public transit. So the fact that this camera is totally obstructing the subway map is infuriating to me. Why would someone do that? I want to know.
2. This Bench
Um, check this out, these benches are located in Toronto, Canada. What’s up, guys? Are you trying to tell people to “shut up?” I don’t get it. I used to live in downtown Toronto and like Shania says, “this don’t impress me much,” lol.
3. This Bathroom Stall
Going to the public restroom already gives me enough anxiety. But to find out that this one here has see-through doors and big gaps is pretty unbelievable. Am I right? I guess I would have to hold it in.
4. These Urinals
I’m a girl, so I don’t frequent men’s bathrooms, but I’m pretty sure nobody wants to be blinded when they do their business. I guess somebody didn’t think that through when they installed these blinding lights here.
5. This Road Pole
Can somebody explain to me why there is a pole in the middle of this road? What rhyme or reason would there be to place it right there, huh? Is it to catch distracted drivers? I think there are way better ways of doing that, no?
6. This “Wheelchair-Friendly” Curb
I really feel for those people using a wheelchair to get around the city. It seems that whoever created this curb here totally forgot about accessibility. Not only can’t you use the sidewalk, but the curb is a pile of dirt. Thanks that makes things so much easier. I’m being sarcastic, of course.
7. This Public Bathroom
Can you imagine entering this public bathroom only to realize that there are mirrors on the ceiling? OMG! That would be my worst nightmare. Good luck to anyone brave to use these. I would be out of there faster than I could say, “Heck, no!”
8. This Bathroom Wall Design
If I haven’t expressed my disdain for public bathrooms enough, here’s another ridiculous idea. Somebody thought it would be okay to put this design on the wall. Doesn’t it look like gross hair? OMG, why? This is unsettling and really disgusting.
9. This Escalator
Leave it to Russia to install the most unsafe escalator in the world. Oh, yeah! How in the heck do you get off without hitting the wall? Huh? I would really love to figure that out, and I bet these folks are wondering the same thing too.
10. This Restaurant
Wait a minute. What is going on here? Are you telling me that in order to eat here, people have to climb a ladder? Oh, I bet the wait staff really love this design, too. Ladies and gentlemen, you can find this gem in London, England.
11. This Wall Art
Get a load of this: Somebody actually found this painting in a fancy restaurant. What does it remind you of? If it makes you think of poop, you are not the only one. I find it quite disturbing and disgusting. Yuck! Frankly, I’ve lost my appetite.
12. This Hotel Carpet
If you thought this hotel carpet here was curved, you would be wrong. It’s actually totally flat, yet the awful design makes it look like this. Try walking around this hotel while drunk — I dare you, ha, ha! Not that I condone that.
13. This Fountain
If you thought this was a bench where you could have a rest, you would be so wrong, my friend. Get this it’s actually a fountain inside of a building. I mean, what? I wonder how many people tried to sit on it and got wet? OMG!
14. These Stairs
Wait a minute, what am I looking at here? Are you telling me these are actual stairs people walk on? This is pretty incredible, isn’t it? Honestly, I have a bit of vertigo, so this stairway here would pose some issues. I can’t even believe the stupidity of this.
15. This Bench
It’s quite clear that this metal bench has been designed to deter homeless people from sleeping on it. However, the way somebody made it makes it pretty uncomfortable for anyone to sit on. Oh yeah, good going here.
16. This Bathroom
Check this out: This isn’t actual rust on this bathroom wall. Oh no, it’s just the wallpaper. Yes, that’s right. Who in their right mind came up with this design? I’m so baffled I can hardly find words to describe my disgust here.
17. This School
Okay, I know what you might be thinking. Why are all these kids in these stairways? Well, some genius designed this school, so all the hallways intersect. This is some great planning here, no? Imagine if we were in a pandemic? Oh, no!
18. This Hotel Bed
Can you imagine having a good night’s rest here at this hotel? I mean, waking up would pretty much be a hazard every single time. Why couldn’t they just move the shelf somewhere else, eh? That would make a lot more sense to me.
Oh my goodness…
Words cannot express how disappointed I am in these awful public spaces designs here. I mean, what were they thinking or drinking, for that matter? I think these are some of the worst ones I have seen in a while. How about you? Does this infuriate you, too?
