No matter how many reviews you sift through, buying makeup is always a gamble. I don’t think there’s one makeup lover on the planet who’s ever not been disappointed by a product.
Luckily, a number of products do actually meet our every expectation and therefore help to ease the pain from the ones that do not.
1. You think finding a hair in your food is gross? Try finding one in your makeup.
Recently, there was a controversy around hairs being found in Jeffree Star highlight compacts.
However, the “hairs” turned out to be machine cleaning bristles used in the factory.
2. When your collarbones are so luminescent, they could guide Santa’s sleigh on a foggy night.
All thanks to Becca Cosmetics’ Champagne Pop highlighter, which was created in collaboration with Jaclyn Hill.
3. Hey! Who skimped on the glue?
There’s nothing worse than buying a $66 Urban Decay Naked Palette only to find its packaging barely exceeds dollar-store standards.
OK, there are worse things. But this is pretty bad.
4. When Rihanna says she’s going to release a stunning red lipstick and makes good on her promise.
If we’re grateful for any part of 2017, it’s the part where Rihanna launched Fenty Beauty.

If your eyeshadow can’t even deliver a visible swatch, then it belongs in the trash.
I can hardly see this swatch, and I have 20/20 vision.

And you have to fill in the names of two or three colors on your own.
How fun is that?
10. Too Faced really delivered on their Just Peachy Palette.
If you’re looking for vibrant, summer-y matte eyeshadows, then this is the palette you need to get.
It lives up to its name!
11. Aw, man! Another tragic Kylie Cosmetics lip kit wand.
This wand reminds me of the paint brushes we used to use in first grade. They were always bent and frayed, except no one was a great artist then so it didn’t matter anyway.
12. This brow pencil is doing the most.
If you can find an eyebrow pencil that makes your brows look as natural and flawless as this, don’t you ever let it go.
P.S. I really want those sunglasses.
13. Ummm, this is a cruel joke, right, Morphe?
This why I’m terrified to order an eyeshadow palette online.
Will my FedEx driver treat my Morphe palette with the gentle care it requires? I can’t take that risk.
14. I don’t think I’ve ever seen green eyeshadow look so good.

Actually, it kind of looks like this woman is dying her eyebrows. But if that’s really DipBrow, then something has gone terribly, terribly wrong.
18. When the KKW Beauty line is so good that you feel like an actual Kardashian.
And there’s nothing left to do but recreate Kim and Kylie’s iconic photo with your friend.
19. The neck of this foundation bottle might have been defective.
And by “might,” I mean “definitely was.”
Seeing all that wasted foundation (aka wasted money) really hurts my heart.

20. Tarte’s Shape Tape is like a concealer and a highlighter all in in one.
This stuff is so good that Ulta Beauty has exclusive rights to sell it. Needless to say, I was very disappointed the last time I went looking for it at Sephora.
21. How can anyone expect to achieve perfectly sharp liner with a BALL on the tip of their eyeliner pen?!
This tool would be alright for filling in winged liner, but that’s about it.
22. Anastasia Beverly Hills’ eyeshadow was made for HD cameras and extreme close-ups.
I’ve never used ABH myself, but it looks like the formulas blend to pure perfection.
Adding an ABH palette to my wish list now.
23. When the customer support makes you feel like you’re the one in the wrong.
Meanwhile, their lipstick packaging doesn’t close properly, and you found a hair in their product.
Shaking my head so hard.
24. And finally, when you find a foundation that fits you perfectly.
Most people spend years searching for their perfect match, but when you finally land on something flawless, it almost makes up for all the not-so-great products out there.
