Here, read about the 10+ celebrity scandals from the ’90s that will go down in history.
1. When Prince Charles left Princess Diana for Camilla.
We’ve seen our fair share of royal drama over the years, but this scandal really takes the cake.
Both Princess Diana and Prince Charles were unhappily married and having affairs on one another. For Diana, this was James Gilbey and for Charles, it was Camilla Parker-Bowles.
Due to this, new scandalous headlines hit the British media every day.
This included recordings of Diana confronting Camilla at a birthday party.
After the couple divorced, Diana was tragically killed in a car crash in 1997.
2. When Hugh Grant was arrested for hiring a prostitute.
Back in 1995, the British actor was arrested in Los Angeles with a s*x worker, Divine Brown.
They were having s*x in his car out in public. At the time, he was in a relationship with Liz Hurley.
3. When Sinead O’Connor tore up a picture of the pope on live TV.
She sure made a statement during her 1992 performance on Saturday Night Live . She sang a cover of Bob Marley’s “War” and tore up a picture of Pope John II.
“Fight the real enemy,” she said.
Later, the singer explained that the stunt came from the church’s many years of sexual abuse allegations.
While the incident tarnished the star’s career, she stands by what she did and has said that she has no regrets.
4. When Ellen DeGeneres came out.
The talk show host famously graced the cover of Time magazine in 1997 with the words, “Yep, I’m gay.”
Sadly, it was a different time back then, which caused the star to lose sponsorships and eventually her sitcom show. But as we all know, she bounced back.
5. When Mike Tyson bit his opponent’s ear off.
This definitely doesn’t get talked about enough.
When Tyson was battling Evander Holyfield, no one could have expected that Tyson would literally bite off a piece of Holyfield’s ear !
People actually forget that it wasn’t just one ear. It was *both*.
The fight was obviously over after that, with Holyfield being rushed to the hospital.
As for Tyson, well, he was fined $3 million and forever seen as a maniac.
6. When Woody Allen married Soon-Yi Previn.
This one requires a major backstory: Soon-Yi is the adopted daughter of Mia Farrow, the director’s ex.
The couple had been dating for 12 years when Farrow found naked photos of Soon-Yi in Allen’s apartment.
Soon-Yi spoke candidly about the affair to *Vulture*.
“I wasn’t the one who went after Woody — where would I get the nerve? He pursued me. That’s why the relationship has worked: I felt valued. It’s quite flattering for me. He’s usually a meek person, and he took a big leap.”
7. When Julia Roberts was a real-life runaway bride.
She didn’t just play a runaway bride on-screen — she was one in 1991 when the actress abruptly called off her wedding to Kiefer Sutherland.
That’s not even the most dramatic part.
In a true turn of events, Roberts ran off to Ireland with Kiefer’s *friend*, Jason Patric.
While they dated for two months, it soon fizzled in 1992.
We’re going to go ahead and assume that Jason and Kiefer are not on good terms.
8. When Robert Downey Jr. was arrested for driving naked.
The actor doesn’t like to talk about it, but he has a serious past of abusing drugs and alcohol (it’s even what caused his split from Sarah Jessica Parker ).
Things hit a low point for the Marvel actor in the ’90s.
When police stopped him for speeding in 1996, they found him naked and in possession of drugs and a gun.
He took several trips to rehab after this and even landed in jail for under a year.
After hitting true rock bottom, he checked into rehab and got his life back on the right track.
9. The O.J. Simpson trial.
This is definitely one of the most talked-about trials of all time.
The former pro-football player fell from grace when he was accused of murdering his wife, Nicole Brown, and her friend, Ron Goldman.
10. The Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky affair scandal.
This scandal is still talked about to this day.
The White House intern has never really been able to escape the huge s*x scandal she was part of in 1998 for having an affair with then-President Bill Clinton.
A former friend had given secret recordings between her and Monica to the FBI.
Monica’s career never really recovered after that and Clinton was impeached in 1999.
This made him the second president to ever be impeached.
11. When Madonna’s music video was banned from MTV.
Never one to shy away from controversy, the singer’s 1990 video for “Justify My Love” was banned from MTV for being too racy.
That’s because it featured several s**y acts in a hotel room (you can use your imagination).
12. Michael Jackson is accused of sexual assault.
This was the first time that Michael Jackson was ever accused of any illicit sexual activity, but sadly it wouldn’t be the last.
From this point onward, Michael’s career began declining at a drastic rate.
13. When J-Lo and P. Diddy fled the scene of a crime.
Supposedly, J-Lo and Diddy were partying at a club when all of a sudden a shooting broke out.
The two were pulled over by police, and a stolen firearm was discovered within the vehicle.
15. Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee’s leaked s*x tape.
It was a disgruntled former employee who leaked the infamous tape between Pam and her then-husband, Tommy Lee .
A similar style of tape, starring Pam and Tommy’s bandmate, Vince Neil, would also make its way to the light.
14. TLC’s Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes burned down her boyfriend’s house.
Left Eye is said to have burned her former boyfriend’s house to the ground because he refused to buy her a pair of sneakers .
I don’t mean to speak ill of the deceased but my gosh, talk about volatility!

17. Tonya Harding takes her rivalry with Nancy Kerrigan to new heights.
How bad is your desire to win? I’m willing to bet it doesn’t even hold a candle to Tonya Harding.
Tonya was an Olympic skater who hired someone to break Nancy Kerrigan’s knee.
18. The tragic passing of Lady Diana, Princess of Wales.
I can still remember where I was the day that this happened. It seemed that at that moment, the world was silenced into a collective state of mourning.
The tragedy of Diana’s death was only compounded by the senselessness of it all.
19. The murder of Tupac Shakur.
Very few artists, if any, are wrapped in the same kind of mystery and allure as 2pac.
He is unquestionably one of the most widely respected rappers of all time. His death came at the height of the East/West rivalry in hip hop.
