One animal shelter’s bizarre fundraising technique has taken the internet by storm as thousands of people requested deliberately terrible drawings of their pets!
The shelter in question is the Wisconsin Humane Society.

The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is a private nonprofit organization that has been operating for over 139 years!
Their mission, according to their Facebook page, “is to build a community where people value animals and treat them with respect and kindness.”
Recently, the WHS had a somewhat interesting idea to generate some donations.

In a Facebook post that has since gone viral, the shelter wrote that for the small price of a $15 donation, they would provide you with an artistic representation of your beloved pet.
However, there was one catch.
The drawings are far from good!

In the post, the WHS wrote, “It’s time to put the ‘fun’ back in fundraising… if you donate $15 to the animals at WHS, we’ll draw your pet. The catch? We’re a whole lot better at caring for animals than we are at drawing them.”
The WHS staff and volunteers were extremely excited for the opportunity.

Their enthusiasm for the project was not in equal measure to their artistic ability though. The WHS explained:
“We have a pool of staff and volunteers standing by, eager to turn your animal into a timeless work of art (or at least make you laugh). You might get one of our extremely talented artists, but we’ll be honest… you’ll probably get someone who can’t draw their way out of a paper bag.”
And boy did the public go bananas for these terrible tributes!

The post quickly generated over 1000 likes and thousands of comments. Some people even offered their terrible assistance with the drawings:
“I’m not the best artist, but I’d donate my time… if I could draw them from home and send them to you.”
“If you are looking for more artists to help, I would love to offer to draw some of the pets for you. Love to art for a good cause.”
“If you end up doing this again sign me up as an artist for next time.”
The post has been so popular, that the WHS have had to stop accepting submissions.

Yes, the demand was so great that the shelter has had to put its fundraiser on hiatus, with them adding an update to the post explaining their decision:
“DUE TO OVERWHELMINGLY AMAZING RESPONSE, SUBMISSIONS HAVE NOW CLOSED. Your questionable spending habits raised more than $12,000 for the animals at WHS. You all are truly incredible and surpassed our wildest expectations!! Our artists are working tirelessly to get the masterpieces back to you as soon as possible, though it may take a few days at this point.”
People who missed out were heartbroken!

There were plenty left disappointed by the short submission window, as hundreds of people took to the comments to share their heartbreak at being unable to acquire a terrible drawing of their pets:
“Awww! Miss the cut off! This is absolutely amazing!!! I hope you do it again!”
“Yes! Please do this again! I love this! I love everything about this!”
“PLEASE DO THIS AGAIN WHEN YOUR HANDS AND PENCILS AND BRUSHES HAVE RECOOPERATED!!!!!”
The fact that they raised $12,000 hopefully means they will do another fundraiser like this in the future!

With hundreds of people expressing their disappointment that they had missed the window, I would be surprised if the WHS didn’t open up another submission window in the future! After all, who wouldn’t want one of these adorably terrible pictures in their house?!
