Large appliances like washers , dryers, and freezers are incredibly useful to have, but they’re definitely not the prettiest of home decor. Unsatisfied with their “ugly” appearance, many DIYers have tried different techniques to make their clunky appliances fade to the background.
Whether it’s by making curtains, building wooden counters, or sealing them off in another room entirely, there are many ways to conceal your large appliances.
Faith Shipman’s solution is to paint them.
A talented artist and painter, Faith Shipman gives old eyesore house appliances a complete makeover. Transforming the white surfaces with paint, Shipman makes old machinery look like it’s made of vintage wood.
For example, she turned this old freezer into a vintage chest.
Taking this large box freezer from dumpy-basement to treasure-island; Shipman hand-paints realistic buckles, clasps, leather, and wood onto the surface.
Using light and shading to create the illusion of three-dimensional parts, Shipman brings an old chest to life where a freezer used to be.
She even makes old washer-dryers look like they’re made of barn wood.
Scrubbing down the surface on the appliances she receives, she begins handpainted her designs after prepping the base. Once her final vision has come together, she coats the whole thing in a clear sealant, locking the paint in for years to come.
What do you think?
Impressing her followers with her creativity and technical prowess, Shipman paints all sorts of surfaces; helping homeowners turn their laundry rooms from “blah” to “yeah”.
