Have you ever wondered what the cute tile at the front of trendy restaurants and cafés is called? If you didn’t know, like I didn’t, they’re called penny tile floors, and it really makes me smack my hand to my forehead because the name totally makes sense. The designs are made out of little penny-sized tiles that come together to create a beautiful and classic mosaic.
One woman took the whole penny tile name literally and gave her floor a stunning makeover out of the tiny copper coins.
Kat Von D recently took to Facebook to share her bronzed penny tile floor, which used a whopping 28,928 pennies to make.
Yes, somehow Kat Von D managed to collect $289.28 worth of pennies.
I could buy so many things with that! Well, in this day and age, a couple grocery trips.
Pretty impressive Kat, but actually, a woman by the name of Kelly Graham beat Kat to the punch about 5 years ago.
After seeing Kat’s post, Kelly was inspired to share her own penny tile floor in her foyer that she tackled in 2015.
Her post on her Camias Jewelry Designs Facebook page immediately blew up.
So far, it’s been shared over 233K times and liked by over 54K people.
So many people were amazed at how she managed to accomplish something so stunning out of pennies!
As you can see, she used an array of new and old pennies to achieve the mosaic design.
Pretty cool, huh? What’s even more impressive is that she used about 7,500 pennies , which, if you really despise pennies, might not be too hard to collect!
No one has to worry about messing up the design or slipping on all the pennies and having a nasty accident—they’re all safely secured to the floor with grout.
Wouldn’t that be a catastrophe!
Kelly’s foyer isn’t the only thing she’s penny-bombed.
A year before she tackled her foyer, Kelly tried her hand at a DIY penny tile mosaic around her fireplace.
She should totally finish it, right?
Altogether, the penny tile floor took 3 weeks to complete, which is pretty impressive.
You’ve gotta have some serious zen and patience to complete something like this! But the end result is so worth it.
