Kilmar Armando Abrego García from Maryland was deported to the Center for Terrorism Confinement (CECOT), also known as the ‘world’s worst prison’ in El Salvador.
The deportation was a mistake, by the Trump administration’s own admission, but he has yet to return to the US. Now his wife speaks out after the government leaked her home address on Twitter/X.
More than 250 people have been deported
Over 250 people have been deported to the CECOT in El Salvador as part of US President Donald Trump’s plans to enact mass deportations.
But García was deported by mistake
García was not supposed to be deported as he was issued a protection order by a judge in 2019 that should have protected him from potential deportation.
One of the attorneys for the Trump administration admitted that an ‘admin error’ was made which led to the man’s wrongful deportation.
Chris Van Hollen also spoke about it
Since then, a judge has ruled that the Trump administration must ‘facilitate’ García’s return to the US.
But Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen has alleged that the administration isn’t doing much to bring him back. He also claimed that Vice President JD Vance told him, “The Trump administration is paying El Salvador – the government of El Salvador – to keep him at CECOT.”
García’s wife has spoken out
García’s wife, Jennifer Vasquez Sura, who has been regularly speaking to the press about her husband’s issue, has now commented on having her address leaked online.
Her home address was leaked when the Trump Administration posted a court document that included the address on Twitter/X.
It was shared to over 2 million people
The protective order from 2021 was shared to 2.4 million followers on the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) social media account.
Sura has now been moved to a safe house after no longer feeling safe in her own home.
She spoke with the press about this
Sura told The Washington Post about the aftermath of having her address leaked, saying, “I don’t feel safe when the government posts my address, the house where my family lives, for everyone to see, especially when this case has gone viral and people have all sorts of opinions.”
“So, this is definitely a bit terrifying. I’m scared for my kids,” she said.
The department said it’s public information
A statement provided by the Department of Homeland Security to The Independent said, “These are public documents that anyone could get access to.”
Trump believes García is part of the MS-13 gang
Although the Trump Administration admitted to the ‘admin error’, President Donald Trump is still adamant that García is a member of the MS-13 gang.
Trump posted a picture of himself on Truth Social, holding what he claims is García’s hand. In the caption he wrote, “This is the hand of the man that the Democrats feel should be brought back to the United States, because he is such ‘a fine and innocent person.’”
He doesn’t seem to want to bring García back
“They said he is not a member of MS-13, even though he’s got MS-13 tattooed onto his knuckles, and two Highly Respected Courts found that he was a member of MS-13, beat up his wife, etc. I was elected to take bad people out of the United States, among other things,” Trump wrote.
He added, “I must be allowed to do my job. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
