Having a newborn baby at home can be rough on parents. When parents aren’t on the same page, a lot of problems can occur. Especially when kids are young and under a year old, parenting takes a lot of teamwork.
Many times, couples get into arguments about who’s going to take care of their crying infant.
We’ve all heard the stories of the “It’s your turn” kind of conversations between parents when kids are young and crying. Sometimes, couples can’t seem to agree on what’s “fair” responsibility sharing.
One new mom wrote in to Reddit seeking advice about her husband.
“Our nine-month-old is teething and pretty fussy right now. I finally got her to sleep – I breastfeed and she nurses to sleep, so my husband couldn’t help with that,” she said.

Her husband was playing a video game quite loudly.
“He was playing an online game with voice and I told him he needed to be more quiet because if he woke her up, he was taking care of her until she was ready to go back to sleep.
If she wakes up, she wants to play for an hour or two before she’ll settle back down,” she added.
The husband said, “He wasn’t being that loud.”
“He said he wasn’t being that loud and to be fair, he was using a normal speaking voice, but I told him that she kept stirring and squirming. My rocking chair is in the living room where he has his PC. When she’s fussy like this, she just needs to rock and cuddle for a while. If I put her down too early, she wakes up,” the mom continued.
Her husband continued to not be considerate of his volume.
“He said he’d try to be quieter. He was using his headset and it’s pretty high-end so it can easily pick up his voice. There wasn’t [an] issue with him being heard in [the] game. But he kept forgetting to lower his voice and the baby woke up,” she said.
The wife had enough and decided it was his turn to care for their daughter.
“I waited for him to finish his mission, then I handed her to him and went into the bedroom with my laptop to play one of my games.
He’s mad and says I’m being a jerk because he wasn’t being overly loud and he wanted to get further in the game. But I warned him. When she’s having a fussy night, we have to work around her,” she said.
She asked Reddit if she was in the wrong for how she handled this.
Many people agreed that the dad needs to put the game down and step up.
“He needs to grow up. Kids come first. He needs to work his hobbies around that fact,” one person said.
Others said that men can be “forgetful.”
“Some men tend to forget it takes two to make a baby. If they have no issues making kids then they should have no issues caring for them. I get and completely agree everyone needs to have something they enjoy doing (video games in your husband’s case) but he’s a parent now and it’s time to step up and realize taking care of his daughter is part of his responsibility of being an adult with kids,” another added.
Someone else summed up their feelings on the whole situation by writing, “This is literally why I would never date a ‘gamer.'”
Overall, everyone said this mom is “not the asshole.”
“I enjoy gaming when I chill at home too, but if you’ve got a baby in the house then you need to be ready to alter how you operate.
You gave him fair warning, and lo and behold, the chickens came home to roost,” someone else said.
