Couples can find themselves arguing over many things. However, one thing that most people do not think that they will end up arguing about is their significant other selling their property unbeknownst to them.
One woman recently shared a story of how her and her husband had ended up in a precarious situation where they had sold one another’s beloved possessions.

The couple had been struggling with money, which had partially led to the confrontation.
The wife took to Reddit’s Am I The Asshole subreddit to try and work out whether she had been in the wrong for the actions she had taken.
She started by explaining that both her and her husband work minimum wage jobs and have never had any savings.
One day, she found that her grandmother’s antique set was gone.
When she confronted her husband about the missing tea set, he confessed to selling it. She explained:
“My husband admitted selling it for $300+ to be able to buy a gaming chair for his nephew who’s [a] recovering cancer patient. I didn’t take it well I told him this tea set was important to me and I wasn’t willing to let it go that easily, now if he was selling it to pay off debts or rent then maybe but a gaming chair?”
The husband explained that he had promised his nephew the chair and promised to buy her a new set.
However, this did not cut it with his wife. He also apparently claimed that it wasn’t a big deal as she never used the antique tea set.
“I refused to accept that it was gone and let go of it. I contacted the buyer and he told me I had to pay 450 to get it back which was unfair but since he was barely convinced to let me have it back then I needed to come up with the money,” she went on to write.
So, in her desperation, she sold her husband’s Xbox to raise the funds.
She raised $400 from selling the xbox and then she borrowed the remaining $50 from her sister. However, when her husband found out, he was far from pleased. She finished her story by writing:
“He blew up calling me childish and that I should’ve sold his Xbox the only thing keeping him entertained in these awful times. He’s started sulking ever since and kept reminding me that he was the one with the short end of the stick since I got my precious tea set back, the buyer earned $150, but he lost his Xbox forever. He’s refusing to talk to me calling me evil with zero consideration for how depressed and upset he is feeling.”
However, the responses on her post showed that the internet was firmly on her side.
A lot of people were on her side, even if some people didn’t completely agree with the way that she handled the situation. With one person writing:
“I was gonna say ‘two wrongs don’t make a right’ but then I read he did this to fulfil a promise HE made to buy someone a gaming chair. He wrote a cheque(/check) his ass couldn’t cash. He should have sold HIS items to raise the money needed for the gaming chair. Selling your tea set was heartless. Saving up (which you state you can’t do anyway!) to buy you a modern one is pointless because the original set has sentimentality.” — Substantial-Fox-4905
Some people pointed out that it sounds like they may need to communicate a bit better.
There were a fair few responses which pointed out that simply trying to get one another back instead of talking through their issues may not bode well going forward.
“[Everyone sucks here]. This is a tit for tat style of communication. It doesn’t sound like either one of you are happy in that kind of marriage,” wrote one individual.
Either way, it doesn’t seem as though the husband is going to get over this soon.
Although, if he was the one who promised the chair to his nephew, then it was his duty to acquire the funds to get the chair. His items should have been the first to go before he started going through his wife’s beloved possessions and selling them!
