Donald Trump’s meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron earlier this week was certainly an eventful one. Among the topics discussed after the meeting was a large bruise on Trump’s hand, which some viewers noticed, prompting an explanation from the White House.
Viewers caught the bruise at the meeting
The engagement between Trump and Macron on Monday 24 February showed the American President appearing to have a large bruise on his right hand.

People started asking questions
People quickly took to social media and started asking questions about the president’s health, with many worried that there could be a sign of a serious health issue which Trump might be suffering from.
The White House responded
Following the rising concerns and questions, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt offered an explanation for the bruising on the President’s right hand.
As reported by NBC, she said, “President Trump is a man of the people and he meets more Americans and shakes their hands on a daily basis than any other president in history. His commitment is unwavering and he proves that every single day.”
She also gave a follow-up statement
Leavitt also reiterated her point in a follow-up statement, saying, “President Trump has bruises on his hand because he’s constantly working and shaking hands all day every day.”
But people aren’t believing it
Although the White House press secretary had explained the bruising to be the result of a lot of handshaking, a lot of people aren’t convinced.
One person wrote on X/Twitter, “Why even lie? It’s obviously an IV bruise for blood testing or something. Is it a surprise to people that Trump is old and gets regular physician visits?”
Another guessed it could be from blood work
One person speculated the bruise meant the President was getting routine blood work done, writing, “Anyone who gets routine bloodwork can have a bruise on his hand- says nurse who has drawn a lot of blood.”
Another person wrote, “The White House just said the mysterious makeup-covered bruise on Trump’s right hand is because he is ‘shaking hands all day every day’. Yeah, no. Nope. Turns out we’re not nearly that stupid.”
Others don’t think the bruise is concerning
While many were worried about a possible underlying health issue, others weren’t too concerned, given the President’s age.
One person explained, “My husband had to shake hundreds of hands a day, his hands would bruise too. It’s a real thing.”
A lot of people think it’s just his age
Another person wrote, “He probably hit his hand you morons! All of you that are worried about a bruise are as stupid as I thought. So everyone that is asking doesn’t get bruised?”
“That’s how some old people bruise, I see grandma go through this when she hurts herself. Also takes forever to heal,” a third person wrote.
The bruise and the concern around it has left people wishing to see Trump’s full medical report sooner rather than later, a report which he had said in December that he would be releasing to the public.
