2009 was a wild time, to say the least. Kanye West was not married to Kim. Taylor Swifty still sang country music (no tea, no shade— we love Lover in this house) and Beyoncé was… well… STILL Beyoncé.
But of course, no moment defined the year as much as Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video at the VMAs.
You’ve heard the quote a million times, and honestly, revisiting it was very jarring for me!
This isn’t super star of the world Taylor Swift we’re talking about, here. In 2009, T-Swift was just 19 years old!

And now, we finally know how everyone else reacted to her onstage ambush!
We KNEW Lady Bey had invited T-Swift back up on stage to finish her speech, but we didn’t know Beyoncé CRIED

The former president of Viacom Van Toffler actually saw Beyoncé backstage crying: “I walk behind the stage — and sure enough there is Beyoncé and her dad, and she is crying. She was like, ‘I didn’t know this was going to happen, I feel so bad for her.'”
Apparently Taylor also wanted to leave after her performance (because, duh) but producers convinced her to stay.

“There was a lot of begging, but fortunately she agreed to stay, and Beyoncé agreed to do a wonderfully gracious thing.”
Also Pink tweeted this:

And this year? T-Swift won Video of The Year, and Kanye was nowhere to be found.
