By now, even most non-parents have likely gotten the impression that having kids is some difficult and stressful work. Between the noises, the messes, and the sleepless nights, it takes a lot of love to power a parent through their exhausting responsibilities.
But of course, that’s not to say that it’s all bad. Because while kids can certainly be a lot of work, the chaotic energy that sums up their approach to life can also be pretty hilarious.
Yet while some might think you have to wait until the cute misconceptions and totally flattering drawings of the toddler years before they start tickling our funny bones, it’s true that some kids can make their parents laugh as soon as they get here.
And as we can see from one viral video, the little ones don’t even necessarily need to do anything to delight and confuse us if the situation is right.
Last year, 22-year-old Alexis LaRue of St. Paul, Minnesota learned that she was pregnant with twin daughters.
And while Good Morning America reported that both babies weighed around six pounds each when they were born, they grew quickly and now weigh about 21-pounds each at seven months old.
This came as something of a surprise to LaRue since she’s about 5’3”, while her fiancé Leo Mejia measures in at 5’11”.
LaRue said that her daughters Camila and Elena are in the 92nd percentile for their weight and the 98th percentile for their height, but their pediatrician assured her they’re healthy.
Nonetheless, the disconnect in proportion between their size and that of their parents has led some viewers of LaRue’s TikTok account to believe there must be some optical illusion at work.
And it turns out that people who spot the family in person can’t believe it either.
As LaRue said, “Literally anywhere we go, I always get stopped. A lot of people say, ‘There’s no way those are your babies,’ because I’m so small and they’re pretty big.”
And that surreal difference does a lot to explain why a recent video of LaRue trying to hold her twins up has proved so fascinating.
Without specifying who, LaRue was apparently inspired to try this by another creator’s video but her caption of “It’s a no from me” suggests she tapped out quickly.
In her words, “I don’t know if I’m just weak or my babies are just chunky.”
But while the twins are clearly a handful in the literal sense, that doesn’t seem to be true when it comes to actually raising them.
As LaRue put it, “They’re very calm babies and they’re not very needy and I think it’s because they have each other. They’re super energetic and they’re just very good babies.”
