True crime is one of the most popular genres in movies and television. There’s something about the allure and mystery of a cold case that captivates audiences all over the world.

9-year-old Asha Degree walked out of her home in the middle of the night and proceeded to walk down a long rural highway. After being spotted by a truck driver, she ran into the woods and was never seen again .

In 2014, the Broaddus family was set to move into their dream home at 657 Blvd. in Westfield, NJ. Prior to their move, they began receiving threatening letters from someone calling himself The Watcher . He knew the names of their children, where they slept, and even their birthdates.

On January 15, 1947, 22-year-old Elizabeth Short was found cut in half, drained of her blood, and her face cut into an eery smile from ear-to-ear . Although many suspects were named, no one was ever prosecuted for the crime.

In 1918, New Orleans was haunted by a serial killer known only as “The Axe Man.” In 18 months, there were 12 attacks and six deaths . He only attacked while his victims were asleep and he only used weapons that he found on the premises.

Back in 1845, the Terror and Erebus set sail from Great Britain in an attempt to find the final leg of the North-West Passage and were marooned in ice. To this day, nobody knows what happened to the 129 men aboard .

On March 18, 1990, two men dressed as police officers handcuffed the two guards on duty at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. They made off with 13 paintings totaling $500 million . The museum has offered a $10 million reward.
