Trump‘s not letting go of his Greenland dream. He’s still talking about it, still convinced it’s going to happen. In a recent interview, he made it super clear — he believes the US will end up taking Greenland at some point.
And it’s not just some offhand comment. He seems fully serious about it.
Trump says the US will 100% acquire Greenland
Speaking to NBC on March 29, Trump didn’t hold back. He said straight out that the US will get Greenland.

His words? “We’ll get Greenland. Yeah, 100 percent.”
He also added there’s a “good possibility that we could do it without military force. I don’t take anything off the table.”
Military force is an option he won’t rule out
He brought up the military as a possibility. He’s not saying he plans to go that route, but he’s also not ruling it out.
According to him, Greenland will eventually become part of the US — one way or another.
He ties the plan to global security threats
Trump also mentioned growing concerns over China and Russia being active in the area near Greenland. That, he says, is part of what’s pushing this whole idea forward.
He said: “You have ships sailed outside Greenland from Russia, from China, and from many other places. And we’re not going to allow things to happen that are going to be — that are going to hurt the world or the United States.”
Trump says international peace depends on it
When someone brought up whether this might send a message to Russia, Trump didn’t seem too concerned.
He said: “I don’t really think about that. I don’t really care. Greenland’s a very separate subject, very different. It’s international peace. It’s international security and strength.”
He made a similar argument from the Oval Office
Not long before the NBC interview, he made a similar case from inside the Oval Office.
He said: “We need Greenland. Very importantly, for international security, we have to have Greenland. It’s not a question of, ‘Do you think we can do without it?’ We can’t.
“If you look at Greenland right now, if you look at the waterways, you have Chinese and Russian ships all over the place, and we’re not going to be able to do that. We’re not relying on Denmark or anybody else to take care of that situation.”
Greenland and Denmark have said no repeatedly
Even with all the talk coming from Trump, both Greenland and Denmark have said no — clearly and consistently.
The political leaders in both places have made it clear — they’re not interested, and Greenland isn’t for sale.
The US insists it’s in everyone’s best interests
Trump still isn’t backing down. He says it’s in everyone’s best interest that the US ends up with Greenland.
Since his time in office began, he’s kept bringing it up. Greenland is self-governed, but still technically part of Denmark — and Trump says he thinks the US can still get it.
Greenland wasn’t happy about a surprise US visit
Things got even more tense when JD Vance, a US Senator, made an unexpected trip to a US base in Greenland — without any prior notice.
Greenland’s Acting Prime Minister, Mute Egede, wasn’t pleased. He said: “Just for the record, the government of Greenland has not extended any invitations for any visits, neither private nor official.”
Trump made a direct pitch to the people of Greenland
Earlier this month, Trump spoke to Congress and addressed the people of Greenland directly. His message had a bit of an edge to it.
He said: “We strongly support your right to determine your own future. If you choose we welcome you into the United States of America.”
Then he added: “I think we’re going to get it — one way or the other, we’re going to get it … We will keep you safe. We will make you rich and together we will take Greenland to heights like you have never thought possible before.”
Whether it actually happens or not — Trump clearly isn’t letting this one go anytime soon. Greenland’s not on board, but he’s still talking like it’s already his.
