By a certain point in our lives, we can find ourselves feeling fed up with being fooled. And when this happens, it’s hard not to read half of the stories we come across on social media and immediately file them under “things that didn’t happen.”
Whether it’s because the details seem exaggerated, the speaker has a history of making things up, or it ends with everybody in the room applauding something they did (you’d be surprised how often fake stories end this way), some tales just have a way of tripping up our BS detectors.
But sometimes, we find a piece of evidence that actually makes us believe the unbelievable and everything we thought we knew gets turned upside down.
Somebody forgot to put an artichoke away before they went on vacation and this is how it turned out.

While it definitely doesn’t look safe to eat anymore, it’s hard to deny that it sprouted some beautiful purple flowers while it decayed. I didn’t know they could do that.
You can find some strangely-named places no matter what country you visit, but it’s hard to imagine anyone saying this street name with a straight face.

I can only imagine what a nightmare it must be to order pizza from this street because if any place ever sounded like the kind of dumb name someone would think of during a prank call, it’s this one.
This photo was taken from such a strange perspective that it seems like someone’s fever dreams just came to life.

Once you figure out that the brown part on the left is a pillow, however, it becomes a lot easier to figure out what part of this furry mass belongs to the dog and what part doesn’t.
These women weren’t about to let something trivial like a flash flood wreck Bingo night for them.

Even though the waters seem to rushing at levels that would normally prompt an evacuation, only the child seems even a little bit concerned about it.
It’s hard to tell how exactly this sweet potato ended showing up two different colors inside, but it didn’t seem to slow its owner down.

After all, they said there wasn’t any taste difference between the two sides, which definitely tells you all you need to know about how concerned they were.
A watermelon farmer will probably chuckle at my lack of knowledge here, but I wouldn’t have guessed it was possible to grow them this small.

Maybe the race to grow the biggest one the world has ever seen made these pocket melons less desirable, but they reportedly taste about as good as the full version.
Apparently, this isn’t just a patch in the dog’s fur, but a birthmark.

This dog may not have a lot of brown spots, but the one it does have makes up for this in both size and the fact that it’s shaped like an apple.
Despite how this looks, the rocket launch is actually going well in this picture.

It just happened to break through the planet’s upper atmosphere in such a way that it gave off this intense ripple-like effect and it looks amazingly cool.
This shark is at least 272-years-old.

As Livescience reported , researchers analyzed some eye tissue from the Greenland shark, which showed that it could even be up to 512-years-old.
Even at the lowest end of their estimate, however, that still makes the shark the longest-living vertebrate in the world.
Is it a horse or is it a zebra?

Actually, it’s both. Known as a “zorse”, this is the result of a male zebra breeding with a female horse. And yes, it’s a very real thing.
As hard as it may be to accept, it turns out that old Nokia phones aren’t completely indestructible.

It’s hard to tell what must have happened to damage this thing, but it turns out that whoever made cases for them wasn’t wasting their time after all.
There’s no better indication that you’re in the middle of a supremely blustery day than a sight like this.

It’s a good thing that whoever saw this posted what was going on on Snapchat because this still of the video really doesn’t make the issue clear.
But indeed, it’s flying with all its heart and getting nowhere. Poor bird.
This is about as close as we’ll ever get to seeing Rainbow Road from Mario Kart in real life.

According to the BBC , these “fire rainbows” often last for about 15 minutes and occur when sunlight refracts through a cloud that’s full of ice crystals.
So I wouldn’t worry about being hit by falling go karts driven by dinosaurs and plumbers if you walk under it.
No matter how many flies we’ve swatted over the years, this is probably the first time most of us have seen this happen.

And in case anybody is wondering, it seems that getting stuck in the swatter isn’t any healthier for a fly than being crushed by it because this one did not survive.
Normally, the fields seem a little flatter than this when we fly over them.

As for why it looks like some of these patches of Colorado land are sticking out further than others, it apparently has to do with the way the snow was melting and blowing around.
This already looks like a pretty impressive piece of art before you realize it was made by one very ambitious knitter.

Not only that, but the fact that it looks so lush and colorful disguises the fact that only five different colors of yarn were used here.
If you want to help the environment but are disappointed with paper straws, some restaurants in Vietnam may have the answer.

They’re apparently made from sedge grass and can last about two weeks in a fridge unless they’re dried, which extends that lifespan to six months.
This beautiful fish was caught off the coast of Hawaii.

Although it looks like it’s an entire box of crayons that have been melted together, this unique creature is actually a parrotfish which are native to Hawaii.
Not only is the human body incredible, but so are dog’s.

This is an X-ray of a mamma dog pregnant with a litter of puppies. Just look at all those little guys in there and tell me you aren’t absolutely amazed at what dogs are capable of.
This soldier was given his helmet which was mounted on a plaque for a very special reason.

Notice that damage there? That’s what the helmet sustained when it was took a 7.62 round at 20′, all while the soldier was still wearing it and miraculously survived.
My gut instinct says this is some sort of cast iron chicken decoration in a person’s backyard.

But it’s actually a real life “goth chicken” which is entirely black from its head to its tail feathers. And in fact, even its bones and internal organs are dark, which is the most metal thing ever.
“Ghost apples” are stunning and surprisingly natural creations.

What you’re seeing is what happens when freezing rain coats rotting apples hanging off a tree. Once the mushy apple falls out the bottom, it leaves behind its shape beautifully preserved in ice still hanging from the branch.
Did you know you can build a fire inside of an igloo?

The fire won’t actually cause the ice structure to melt. In fact, the heat only melts an interior layer while the cold air outside freezes it. Thus, a layer of insulation is creation, allowing the inside of the igloo to reach temperatures of 60 degrees while it’s -50 degrees outside.
This one just doesn’t seem possible at all.

But actually what you’re looking at is a clear bathtub, so although it definitely seems like someone’s harnessed the power of the water element, it’s sadly not.
A glitch in the matrix must have resulted in these pixels being exposed.

Or, another explanation is that this is just how the grass grew against the bricks along this pathway. I think either one is definitely possible.
This is a completely intact human nervous system.

Of course on it’s alone this is beyond incredible. But what’s even more incredible is that it was dissected over 1,500 hours by two medical students way back in 1925, and is only one of four in the entire world.
Sometimes, it can be a little tough to appreciate exactly how small a Smart car is.

For instance, this RV is having surprisingly little difficulty towing one along considering the trailer used here is normally intended for lawnmowers.
No, this is not a butterfly that had its growth somehow half-stunted.

This is actually what’s known as a bilateral gynandromorph, which means it is quite literally half a male butterfly and half a female one.
It wouldn’t be right to ambush you with what you’re about to see, so I’ll warn you that someone ended up with a tick in their eye.

If it’s any consolation, they apparently didn’t suffer any eye damage once the doctor removed the tick despite the fact that it was in three different parts when it came out.
On the outside, this looks like a sort of lightening tornado-meets-volcano.

But what we’re actually seeing is a spectacular electrical discharge in the atmosphere from the eruption of the volcano.
This vial contains the oldest blood on the planet.

It was harvested from a 42,000 year old foal found in Siberia. What’s even cooler is that this blood was found still entirely in its liquid form.
The shape of this scar gives a clue as to what happened to this person.

You may notice that it looks vaguely like a jellyfish, which is very appropriate because it’s actually the result of a jellyfish sting.
The petals on this rose are both white and red, like the perfect rosé.

Known as the osiria rose, this is a beautiful hybrid tea rose with a very strong fragrance, the result of crossbreeding between two types of roses.
These moon drop grapes have a reputation for tasting good, but they’re pretty unlike most grapes we’re used to.

Their unusual length almost makes them look like chili peppers, but that’s about as far as the resemblance goes. They’re not very spicy.
