Anyone who has a furry friend in their family can vouch that dogs can experience the same range of emotions that human beings can.
It may seem like rover only switches between hungry and sleepy, but there’s a lot more going on in his brain than you might expect.

Brothers Spencer and Rocky were the closest of pals.
Their owner Beth Fisher recalls that the two of them slept together, ate from the same food bowl, and never left each others side.
“They had never spent a night apart,” she explained. “They always walked together when they went out.”
But everything changed after a visit to the vet.
A routine checkup revealed that Rocky unfortunately had a cancerous tumor that could not be surgically removed.
The family was forced to make an extremely difficult decision.
“Rocky had to get put down that day”
“It was hard to process Rocky’s sudden death,” Beth wrote, “but we can’t imagine how hard it must be for Spencer to have lost his little brother.”
Spencer didn’t understand where his brother had gone.
Beth recalls that Spencer would “wander around the house” searching for his brother.
“Since Rocky passed, Spencer has been getting up in the night to wander the house looking for his brother. And then he starts crying because he can’t find him.”
Beth’s dad decided to order a pillow for the grieving dog.
They managed to order a pillow online with a picture of Rocky’s face on it.
According to Beth, he carried the present off straight away, and hasn’t let go of it since.
“Spencer has been cuddling into the pillow since it arrived.”
“He carries it from the sofa to his own bed,” Beth shares. “He seems a lot more settled now he’s got something to cuddle into.”
“I don’t think Spencer will ever get over Rocky’s passing, but I hope he’s able to learn to go on without him.”
Even dogs need something with which to remember their loved ones. This was such a kind gesture— one that I’m positive did not go unappreciated.
