I don’t think it’s a secret that I absolutely love the dollar store . There are just so many amazing things you can buy or make for next to nothing. Let’s forget the fact that I drop at least $20 every time I go there, and instead focus on what people are making across the internet.
If these hacks and DIYs don’t make you want to run to the dollar store, I really don’t know what will.
1. This is one of my favorite dollar store hacks, so much so that a bunch of us at Diply gave it a try over lunch!
If you can find some cork or cork trivets at your dollar store, you are golden. Then you just need some glue (we used decoupage glue), and fabric.
The Crafted Life showed us how to create these mouse pads, and I use mine every day!
It’s definitely a super cute way to give your desk a little upgrade and to make all of your colleagues a little jealous.
2. A couple of rugs from the dollar store are a really cheap alternative to using fabric for different projects.
I really love the boho patterns of these rugs! If your local dollar store doesn’t have any, you can even get some cheap ones from Ikea.
All you need are some basic sewing skills to make this happen!
The White Buffalo Styling Co. did such a fantastic job with this project. I definitely am going to add it to my to-do list, ASAP.
3. Next time you’re at the dollar store, grab a pack of straws and some wire.
Homemade Ginger threaded the wire through the straws to create a really cool geometric shape.
After spray-painting them gold, she had some new homes for her succulent collection!
This is a really cool way to create a faux terrarium look on a budget.
4. You may have noticed that there is a trend around toy animals right now.
They are used in so many really cool DIY projects and hacks. I love it because you can get a bag of four animals at the dollar store for just a few bucks.
Hi Sugar Plum! spray-painted the animals a pretty red color, then glued them to stones.
Now she has some really funky bookends for her shelves! Such a simple, yet cute idea.
5. I was wandering through the dollar store yesterday and saw a bunch of clocks.
They were ugly, but they definitely had a ton of potential. If you can get your hands on some contact paper , then you can totally transform them!
The Things She Makes used a clock kit, but I think you could totally do this with an existing clock, too.
Isn’t the end result totally chic?! I am in love.
6. There is another super popular trend with dollar store hula-hoops right now.
I’ve never been particularly good at hula-hooping, but I’m not too shabby at crafting and making things.
I am super impressed with this hula-hoop wreath that Nickell Morgan created.
This would be absolutely perfect for a spring wedding or bridal shower. There are so many options for making something like this!
7. I love going to little trinket shops in small towns that have the cutest little DIY touches.
You often see cool projects using upcycled materials on their walls. I’ve definitely seen a bunch of cool things using spoons!
The Wood Grain Cottage bent a couple of spoons and nailed them to a wood board to create some hooks.
There are so many amazing possibilities for something like this in your kitchen!
8. Dollar store mirrors can definitely look really cheap if they aren’t styled properly.
Dollar Store Crafts wanted to make their dollar store mirrors look much more chic, so they taped them together!
Doesn’t it make a huge difference when you see them lined up in a tiled grid?
It now looks like something out of a fancy home decor store, not the dollar store.
9. I’m always looking at the frame section at the dollar store because framing your artwork is not cheap.
Alicia took a bunch of dollar store frames and taped them together for a really stunning project.
Buying a terrarium can be kind of expensive, but making one with some cheap frames is not!
This shape and style is also really popular for card boxes at weddings, so you could use it for that as well.
10. And a box isn’t the only thing you can wrap in rope to make extra chic.
Two It Yourself wanted an upgraded trash can, but didn’t want to fork out the money for something expensive.
So, they wrapped the trash can in some rope using hot glue!
And result is definitely so much nicer than the average wire trash can. This can really elevate your bathroom to the next level.
11. I actually have a couple bags of pebbles from the dollar store in my house right now.
If you glue them to some foam or even cork, you can have a really funky trivet for your kitchen.
I really love how this project from Kasey Trenum turned out!
You could also do it on a smaller scale and make a bunch of really cool coasters instead of trivets.
