The typically not political celeb Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson recently announced his endorsement of former Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Kamala Harris in the upcoming 2020 presidential election.
The actor and WWE legend took to social media on Sunday to announce his backing of the Democratic party, a first for the 48-year-old.
The Rock shared a seven-minute video to his social media accounts in which he explained his support for the Democratic ticket.
“I’ve got friends in all parties, but the one thing we can always agree on is the conversation and the dialogue, and where that conversation lands is always the most critical part,” he says in the clip.
“This is something that I’ve certainly not done in the past, so I’m gonna go big. You guys know me, if I go, I go big.”
The video included a remote conversation about political issues that Johnson recently had with both Joe and Kamala, which he says cemented his support.
During the conversation, The Rock asked them how they intend to earn the respect of American people if they’re elected.
“By doing what we say we’re going to do,” Joe answered.
“By keeping our word. By leveling with the American people. By taking responsibility. When we fail, acknowledge it.”
While many of The Rock’s fans have been supportive of the actor’s endorsement, others aren’t pleased.
“Sorry, but your political opinion means nothing to me,” wrote Buzz Paterson.
“I think celebrities should stay out of politics,” echoed @nhalfordsmith.
Twitter user @Mama_C2 pointed out that The Rock had lost many of YouTube subscribers, and encouraged everyone to go subscribe to his channel.
