When it comes to long-lasting couples in Hollywood, a few pairs come to mind — Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderic, David and Victoria Beckham and Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick. However, one often forgotten long-lasting couple is HRH QUEEN ELIZABETH and her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
These two have been married longer than I’ve been alive, so that’s saying something!
Queen Elizabeth II married Prince Philip all the way back in 1947.
The pair would go on to have four children, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward.
Now, if you’re wondering how many grandchildren they have, I’ve sat and done the math for you like the selfless person I am.
The couple has eight grandchildren and, come the New Year, will have nine great -grandchildren!
How they keep track of all their grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s names I’ll never know!
I can hardly keep track of my own name these days!
Of course, this makes sense as the pair are um, well, **not** young anymore.
The Queen is 94-years-old and Prince Philip is 99, and now, this long-lasting couple is celebrating their 73rd wedding anniversary!
Heck, even if they lasted 73 days it would be longer than most Hollywood marriages!
In celebration of the pair’s wedding anniversary, the Royal Family’s Instagram account shared this new photo:
“This new image has been released to mark the 73rd wedding anniversary of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh tomorrow,” the Instagram caption read.
“In the photograph Her Majesty and His Royal Highness are seen looking at an anniversary card made by Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, alongside other cards and letters sent by well-wishers.”
In addition to the recent photo, the account then shared this retro, honeymoon photo of the pair:
“Thank you to everyone for your kind wishes for The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh on their 73rd Wedding Anniversary,” the caption read.
“The Queen and The Duke are pictured here in 1947 on their honeymoon at Broadlands in Hampshire.”
There’s no denying that these two have proven what it truly means when couples vow to be together FOREVER! This is the kind of unbreakable union kids today should look up to and admire!
I’m wishing Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip a very happy wedding anniversary — cheers to more happy memories together!
