Once upon a time, rom-coms were one of the hottest movie genres around.
But thanks to a lot of cheesiness and clichés, we don’t see a lot of these films getting made anymore.
Things have become even more problematic once we realized that a lot of these “romantic” moments are actually really creepy.

How else would he have saved Bella from that rowdy group of guys in Twilight ? Not to mention, he loved to break into her room and watch her sleep at night.
When Tom crashed Hannah’s wedding in *Made of Honor*.
Since he realized he was in love with her way too late, he put her in the difficult situation of breaking up with her fiancé… on their wedding day.
An over-the-top proposal in public.
Since it’s so public, it puts the girl on the spot to say yes, even if she doesn’t feel like it.
It’s also super cringey to have a cheesy proposal. Keep it short, sweet, and private.
When Mark declared his feelings for Juliet in *Love Actually*.
This would have been super romantic had Juliet not been married to Mark’s best friend.
Know your boundaries and don’t cross them, dude! Unfortunately, she kissed him in the end.
Pursuing an ex who just isn’t interested.
It’s called a breakup for a reason!
They don’t want anything to do with you. And yet, a lot of rom-coms brand an ex doing everything they can to win their ex back as “romantic.”
When Noah and Allie constantly fought on *The Notebook*.
This was classified as “passionate love” in the film, but having screaming matches all the time actually screams “toxic.”
At the end of the day, it’s time to face facts: you’re incompatible.
When Julia sexually harassed Dale at work in *Horrible Bosses*.
So not cool. She even did inappropriate stuff to him while he was under drugs.
Then, she would threaten to ruin his life if he didn’t sleep with her.
Building a house for your ex so that they come back to you.
Looking at you, Noah.
If this was real life and your high school ex built a house for you, despite the fact that you haven’t talked or seen each other in a decade, it would require a restraining order.
When Jake gave his drunk unconscious girlfriend to a nerdy guy in *Sixteen Candles*.
Respect for women, what’s that? Jake clearly had none. Since she was unconscious, anything could have happened to her and she wouldn’t have known.
Having an obsessive love for someone for *decades*.
Jay from The Great Gatsby , anyone?
He pined after the beautiful Daisy Buchanan for decades and did over-the-top things to impress her. He didn’t stop until he finally wore her down.
When Nate made Andy chose between love or her career in *The Devil Wears Prada*.
We get it: she was working a lot (and for the devil, no less), but making her choose is unfair after she worked so hard.
Serenading someone at their doorstep.
Unless it’s Christmas and you’re caroling, get off our doorstep! This is just awkward and means that the person went to their home without permission to come over.
Plus, let’s be real: most are terrible singers.
When Margaret threatened Andrew into marrying her in *The Proposal*
Just imagine that the boss that you despise forces you to marry her so that she can stay in the country. And she threatens to ruin your career if you don’t agree to it.
When Cher started dating her stepbrother in *Clueless*.
Yes, they weren’t technically related. But it was still weird. She viewed him as an annoying older brother for some time. The movie would have been perfect if it wasn’t for their relations.
When the older version of Jenna hit on a young boy at a restaurant in *13 Going on 30*.
It didn’t matter if she was really 13 in real life; it was still creepy! And probably super uncomfortable to film.
