Look, we have to all stop being surprised when we learn fast food companies are not providing us with the freshest ingredients possible. It’s not right, and it’s definitely not okay — but it happens, epecially at Subway. I feel like every other month we’re hearing something weird about Subway food, and this time, it has to do with their rotisserie chicken.
Despite how much I’m about to rip on Subway, I do enjoy their sandwiches.
Sure, we found out last year that their tuna may not have any actual tuna DNA, and sure, some of the ingredients that used to be in their bread could also be found in yoga mats — whatever, it happens!
Oh, you don’t remember this? Please, allow me to explain.
Back in 2014, it was reported that a chemical additive found in Subway’s bread called azodicarbonamide, was something found in many everyday objects, including yoga mats.
To be fair, Subway was far from the only fast food chain to use the controversial addictive.
According to Bloomberg , “McDonald’s, Chick-fil-A, Wendy’s, White Castle, and Jack in the Box, which all used the chemical in their breads in 2014, have since gotten rid of it entirely.”
Things got even stickier for the fast food chain a few years later, after it was reported that Subway’s tuna didn’t actually contain fish DNA.
As per News Nation , lab testing shows Subway’s tuna contained animal proteins such as chicken, pork, and cattle, and not the advertised “100% tuna.”
Big yikes.
Since the controversy broke, Subway has run several TV ads and launched a website defending its tuna.
The brand also refreshed its menu but not its tuna, standing behind the product and saying an upgrade wasn’t needed.

Still, employees are finding ways to leak videos of their behind-the-scenes look inside the fast-food restaurant.
Now, one video is gaining popularity after showing how the rotisserie chicken is prepared.
TikTok user @secrets_of_subway0 shared a video of themselves preparing the popular protein option.
Showing the chicken in a watery bag, the voiceover says “It’s so [explective] disgusting, honestly,” while the chicken is seen being unpacked and squished in the employee’s hands.
“It’s [explective] trash,” they add.
Now look, I can’t say I’m surprised. I knew they didn’t have whole chickens on a rotisserie just cooking away, but to see how it arrives at the restaurant really doesn’t make me feel great.
“I always get the rotisserie chicken and now im never gonna get it again,” said one viewer.
“WTF the chicken, that looks horrible,” said another.
Well, it’s always good to know how your food is prepared, right?!
