I am thankful that, for all the times I had to help raise funds as a kid, that any of the interactions I had with adults while selling apples at gas stations, collecting empty bottles from people’s houses, and going door-to-door with various kitchen goods, were largely positive.
Folks understood that I wasn’t trying to be a nuisance, I just wanted to go to an out-of-town tournament.
I am also thankful that when adults do go negative, there are good folks who will step in and make it right.
You can find just about anything at Target, and for one lady, that included a random act of kindness.

Unfortunately, that act of kindness only happened because of a completely unnecessary act of cruelty on the part of a lady who was trying to police some poor kid selling candy.
It’s not uncommon to see kids trying to raise money for sports teams or clubs out front of big stores like Target.

It’s basically a rite of passage, but one lady decided she had had enough of kids who are literally hurting nobody hawking their candy.
She made her feelings known by scolding a young woman out front of Target, reducing the poor kid to tears.

Because that’s something someone should do, right?
Andy Lizarraga caught the scene as she was walking out of the store and decided to take her phone out and record it.

“She comes up to the little kid and is like, ‘Where is your license? Have you asked permission to be here?’ And then the kid is like, ‘No, I’m just selling candy. I’m trying to make some money,'” Andy recalled to CBS .
The candy policewoman mustn’t have been expecting any other shoppers to intervene, but one did.

“She continued to yell at her and scream at her and tell her if she didn’t have a permit, that she was going to go to jail, that Sheriff’s were on their way,” said Jay Lopez, who walked out the doors and into the middle of the scene. He said when he came out, the girl was “crying hysterically.”
Jay wasn’t having that.

After telling the lady that she should be ashamed of herself, he asked the girl how much all the candy left there would cost.
In the video, you can hear him saying to the lady, “I’m buying it all. I’m gonna buy it all and I’m giving it away to all these people. You should be ashamed of yourself.”

The lady says she is not ashamed of herself and suggests that he’s being ignorant because of the nuisance kids selling candy cause.

But, true to his word, Jay grabbed $80 cash, bought up all of the kid’s candy, and handed it out to the other shoppers and passersby.
“Mind your own business. Take care of yourself and your family and everything will come together for you,” he told CBS.
What a sweet angel man!
Andy posted her video of the exchange to Facebook, where it promptly went viral, receiving more than six million views.

“There are good people and bad people in this world and i saw it first hand,” she wrote . “Screw all you ignorant people that have to complain about something.”

The comments under the Youtube video have all been in favor of the young girl.
User Sonic** wrote “That old lady needs a license for how to talk to kids,” while k-popper joked “That old lady just mad she ain’t got no teeth to eat some candy.”
What do you think of the exchange?
I know I’ll be wiping away happy tears from my eyes for a while.
What a great moment of heroism!
