This year has been full of terrible news — and we’re barely more than a week into it! — so how about we take a quick moment to appreciate a tidbit of something good.
In an interview with CNN, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg casually announced that she’s cancer-free.
This brings a sigh of relief for all of us who have been holding our breath through the 86-year-old’s latest struggle with the disease.
It was back in August 2019 that it was revealed that Ginsburg had just completed three weeks of stereotactic ablative radiation therapy for a cancerous mass discovered in her pancreas.
This was the fourth round of cancer Ginsburg has defeated in two decades.

And the second time she’s battled a tumor in her pancreas. The last time was in 2009 , when she underwent surgery after an early-stage tumor was discovered.
In 1999, she battled colon cancer with surgery, chemo, and radiation therapy while not missing a single day of work.
Most recently, Ginsburg had surgery for lung cancer in 2018 .
After so many scares, it’s no wonder fans of the “Notorious RBG” get antsy when another crops up.

But in a rare interview with CNN in which she spoke about being part of the new liberal minority in the Supreme Court, Ginsburg slipped in a bit of good news: “I’m cancer free. That’s good.”
According to the reporter, she seemed energized and animated throughout the interview.
So maybe 2020 isn’t going to be completely awful after all.
