Batwoman star, Ruby Rose shared a graphic three-minute-long video on Instagram over the weekend, revealing how performing stunts nearly left her at risk of becoming paralyzed.
While promoting the brand new TV series, “Batwoman”, in which Ruby plays the leading role, back in August, fans took notice of a scar located on the back of her neck.
Over the weekend, Ruby revealed exactly where the scar came from.
The scar is a result of an emergency surgery Ruby underwent after she herniated “two disks” performing stunts on the set of “Batwoman”.
She posted a graphic three-minute-long video on Instagram that documented her surgery.
“Well that was fun,” she wrote alongside the video.
“To everyone asking about my new Pez dispenser scar on my neck…” she began to explain .
Glad to see she has a sense of humor about it!
“A couple of months ago I was told I needed an emergency surgery or I was risking becoming paralyzed…” she wrote.
“I had herniated two discs doing stunts, and they were close to severing my spinal chord .”
“I was in chronic pain and yet couldn’t feel my arms…,” she continued.
“Thank you Dr Bray for everything you did and for allowing me to keep working and doing what I love. “
“I am forever in your debt. And to anyone asking why I let them video it..”
“Did you not watch that Greys anatomy episode where they left a towel in a patient ??”
“Also I wanted to see what happens when we go under,” she concluded.
Ruby also uploaded a marginally less graphic but more explanatory version of the video to her YouTube channel.
Ruby’s surgeon, Dr. Bray explains in the video that Ruby had injured two disks and ruptured another one.
He revealed that the ruptured disk was “badly compressing her spinal cord”.
Dr. Bray went into further detail about some of the symptoms and signs of Ruby’s condition.
“She had dysfunction with balance and numbness down her arms and [her] reflexes were off,” he said .
“So, we cleaned out both disks,” he continued.
“Took the fragments off the spinal cord — they were large fragments — cleaned everything up and put two artificial disks in”.
“She can go back into stunts or workouts and, most importantly, now she’s safe because the compression,” Dr. Bray explained.
“She would’ve had risk of losing function,” he added.
Not long after her operation, Ruby was up and walking, feeling much better than before.
“Surgery went great. She’s already up and walking and moving her arms,
“[She] says her arms feel less numb already,” he said.
Fans are thrilled to hear that Ruby is back in good health, and thanks to her vivid documentary, they’ll never have to wonder where the scar on the back of her neck is from ever again.
She eventually went back to playing the role of Kate Kane, AKA “Batwoman” in the new CW series that will start airing in early October.
Thankfully she was able to resume the role without any more numbness and pain!
