The vast majority of guys won’t pop the question without forming some kind of a plan. Unless they’re completely swept up in a moment, men will go out of their way to formulate the perfect proposal for their ladies.
Of course, plans are only as good as the paper they’re written on. Once they’re put into action, anything can happen.
One guy had his plan figured out: A romantic proposal in New York City.

He’s hardly the first to do so — it’s a wonderful, memorable, iconic place to get down on one knee and pop the question. However, one detail wasn’t quite in place before he took the plunge: the size of the ring.
Things went well at first for the romantic man in question: She said yes.

They were in Central Park, enjoying a crisp fall day before one of the happiest moments of their lives.
Then they decided to celebrate with a stroll through Times Square, where that improperly sized ring backfired. As they were walking along, the too-big ring slipped off her finger and right down a sewer grate.
Security cameras caught the guy down on one knee, again, this time peering into the grate to catch a glint of the ring.

Soon enough, she had joined him on the ground as well. Onlookers started to turn their heads. Sadly, as tends to happen with things that fall into a sewer, it was just plain gone.
That is, until the NYPD stepped in.

They weren’t exactly on the scene at the time, but the couple did contact them for help after the fact, and officers from NYPD’s Special Ops team later undertook one very special operation to retrieve the ring from the sewer. Yeah, they actually managed to get the ring out of an NYC sewer.
However, by the time they’d fished it out, the couple had left town without leaving their contact info.

So, after giving the ring a good cleaning, the NYPD set out to re-unite it with the couple, putting out a social media APB trying to find the pair who lost their ring.
After a good 25,000 retweets, the NYPD managed to track down John and Daniella back at home in the UK.

Can you even imagine? How amazing is it that this could even have a happy ending ?
The NYPD made sure to give a particular shout-out to the officers who braved the city’s depths to retrieve the ring.

“A special thank you to NYPD ESU Det. Bucchignano & Glacken for their extra effort, they returned the next morning and were able to recover the ring in the subway grading,” wrote the NYPD Special Ops account.
Best news of all — it didn’t even end up awash in sewage!
So let this go down as a timely lesson for the rest of the world: check the size of that ring first, fellas!
The NYPD were on the case this time, but it could easily have ended up much worse. John and Daniella just lucked out that their big trip to New York didn’t cost them thousands in lost jewelry — and they got one heck of a good story out of it!
