If you’re a fan of woodworking and unusual-looking furniture, you’ll absolutely love this story. A retired cabinet maker from New Zealand creates the most amazing and one-of-a-kind furniture pieces that look like they’ve escaped out of a Tim Burton movie.
They’re topsy-turvy and so whimsical, you’ll be dreaming of fairy tales when you look at them. I kid you not. They’re simply mind-blowing.
Henk Verhoeff was a joiner and cabinet maker and has been woodworking for 53 years.

Over the years he’s developed his skills and a sense of his unique style.
Since retiring, he’s been making furniture pieces just for fun.

Almost all of them are displayed in his house. Cabinet making is basically his hobby and passion.
He’s mostly interested in making furniture pieces that look “broken” or weird.

These are things you wouldn’t be able to find in just a typical furniture shop. Wow, that’s neat!
If you think these pieces are just used as something to look at, I gotta tell you — they’re all fully functional.

Yes, you can put stuff in the drawers.
Wouldn’t you like to have one of these fun pieces in your house?

I absolutely would. It looks so magical and creative. I’m totally in love with all of these.
I bet you think making this would be very time-consuming… and you’d be right.

Henk estimates it can take him anywhere between 80-100 hours to make one of these. OMG!
Henk mostly likes to use recycled New Zealand Pine, but if he’s able to get his hands on some Rimu, he’ll use that, too.

I love the color of these!
Henk’s father actually created the first piece that inspired the collection.

This warped set of drawers was crafted by Henk’s father 24 years ago. It was based on a design Henk did for a class, and his father decided to actually create it!
All of Henk’s designs are 100% original.

It’s pretty amazing that these can be designed and crafted by a single person.
Besides the craftsmanship that goes into these pieces, they also require a lot of planning and precision.

It takes a lot of work to make these pieces of furniture look “broken,” but still function for storage.
Henk’s daughter is the one responsible for his recent viral fame.

She shared his creations in a woodworking Facebook group where people were blown away by these pieces. Personally, I’ve never seen anything like them.
If you want to buy one of these one-of-a-kind dressers, I’ve got bad news for you.

Unfortunately, Henk isn’t selling any of them yet. Perhaps one day he’ll auction some.
For now, Henk’s pieces are quite comfortable in his home.

They fit in beautifully with his original wooden wall hangings, too!
Until then, feel free to check out his shop’s Facebook page and admire his amazing pieces.
I hope I’ll get to own one of these whimsical dressers someday.
