I’m sure the title of this article was enough to shatter your heart into a billion devastated little pieces. But before you go off to have a good sob, let me just say that this story has a happy ending.

A dapper-looking rescue puppy had all his hopes and dreams dashed when his new family decided to bail on his adoption, leaving him alone in the shelter wearing a sad little tuxedo.
Vicente had gotten all dressed up to look as sharp as possible on what was supposed to be his big adoption day.
According to a viral Facebook post from the nonprofit organization Fundación Rescátame in La Calera, Colombia, the sweet pup had been bathed and fitted with a mock tuxedo bandanna, ready to greet his family and start their new lives together.
But sadly, he would go un-adopted that day.
As the organization explained in the translated post, his prospective owners simply decided not to show up to collect their newest family member.
Along with heartbreaking photos of little Vicente patiently waiting in his tuxedo, the group wrote ,
“Vicente was left dressed and ruckus and still available for adoption. [His] alleged adopter never came for him. Already when he was ready for a home, bath, [they] cancelled his adoption.”
The organization used this tragic story to reaffirm just how big of a commitment adopting a dog really is.
“They ask us why we’re so strict with the process, for this reason,” the group wrote online. “Because we don’t want to have any doubt that our furry ones will be in excellent hands for LIFE.”
Mistakes do happen in the process, as with poor Vicente, so rescue groups like Fundación Rescátame need adopters to meet them halfway.
“If you want to adopt, keep in mind that it’s a commitment forever, animals are not things you can dispose of when you miss the desire to have a dog,” the group added.
I know we’re all hurting right now, but before you lose all hope in humanity, you should know that this isn’t the end of Vicente’s story.
Just a few days after the poor pup’s tragic story went viral on Facebook , the organization was flooded with adoption requests and were able to find the perfect family for this deserving dog.
We couldn’t be happier to report that it looks like a great fit, too.
On Instagram , the group shared a photo of Vicente with his new owners and wrote, “We want to tell you that Vicente has already been adopted by a beautiful family that will love him for life.”
The organization even shared a heartwarming video of the puppy on his *real* adoption day.
From the look of things, I think it’s safe to say that Vicente has found himself a wonderful, loving home. Sometimes it just takes a bit longer for the right family to come along. But, thankfully for this adorable pup, they finally did.
