The Redditor Visited His Fiancee’s Family

Things Got A Bit Uncomfortable

The Redditor Fired Back
The 25-year-old narrated his experience with his 24-year-old fiancée’s famil y. The fiancée’s name is Jessie and they met in college 6 years ago but only got engaged 3 months ago. The Redditor has known his fiancée’s family for 4 years and has taken a liking to them.
Over the years his fiancée’s family learned his dad died when he was just 5 months old after a work accident. Also, his mother died when he was 12. The Redditor’s only living family was his dad’s parents who had Alzheimer’s. So he was taken to foster care.
Now about how he made his fiancée’s family uncomfortable. After the couple got engaged, his fiancée’s parents wanted to throw them an engagement party. Due to this, the Redditor got to meet other relatives who were nice. However, things changed at the engagement party.
During the party, the fiancée’s family conversed about the Redditor’s name. They said it was silly for a grown man to bear the moniker Bowie. However, the fiancée’s family thought it was cruel and crazy that his parents named him Bowie. The Redditor explained that one of his fiancée’s aunt even asked if he would change to a more mature name for marriage. However, he replied that would not happen.
More questions about his name were asked by Jessie’s aunt, parents, and two uncles. They had asked if the Redditor had no strange feelings about his name. The family said that his parents probably gave him the name fit for a baby, not a grown man. Jessie was angry at her family but the Redditor decided to handle the situation.
The angry Redditor then asked the family to go to the grave and ask his parents all those questions. He said he was sure his dead parents would love to hear them criticize the name they gave him. After saying all these, the Redditor acted as if nothing happened.
When the party was over, the family told Jessica that the Redditor was rude and made them uncomfortable. Jessie also called them out for being judgemental to her fiancé and the Redditor explained their questions were inappropriate. However, the family who was still angry demanded an apology which Jessie did not support.
