I love wine. I love all wines. In the words of Carrie Bradshaw, “My friends enjoy all wine.” It’s me, I’m Carrie Bradshaw’s friend. And if you’ve clicked on this article, there’s a good chance you like all wine too, otherwise, you would have no business enquiring about a wine made in an Instant Pot with grape juice…
but let’s take a look, shall we?!
I’m not here to judge your wine preferences.
Sure, I can maybe tell the difference between a $5 bottle and a $25 bottle, but I will gladly drink both.
Now, what if I told you you could make oodles of wine for not much more than $5? You’re in, right? Me too.
Food blogger and recipe developer David Murphy came up with the brilliant idea and spoke with Munchies about his discovery process.

David, a member of an Instant Pot Facebook group, told the publication he got the idea when he realized the popular kitchen appliance had a yogurt setting.
“My a-ha moment happened,” the food blogger told Munchies.
“The Instant Pot has a Yogurt function, and you can use less heat. Before you knew it, I was shopping on Amazon and running to the store to grab juice and to test out my theory… and it worked!”
Taking a 64 ounce of Welch’s Grape Juice, a cup of sugar and a packet of Lalvin Red Wine Yeast, David produced a “palatable” wine, and hey — that’s good enough for me!

He details in his blog that the Instant Pot wine tastes like a Merlot with hints of cherries and chocolate.
After two days of cooking in the Instant Pot, and one week of fermenting, David revealed he was pleasantly surprised.
“I seriously didn’t think this was going to work at all. I was expecting a failure, but I was patient and played that annoying waiting game,” he wrote at the time.
“Honestly, it was so much better than some of those cheap bottles of wine that I’ve bought. Dare I say, even better than the 2 buck Chuck from Trader Joe’s!”
