A police officer has shared how much the police department would let you go over the speed limit before pulling you over.
She shared the information online
Tara Miller, a police officer with the Coventry Police Department replied to a question about speeding in a recent video on her TikTok page.
While wearing her uniform, she explained that different police officers have different rules when it comes to this particular issue.
It was a question about how much they’d let go

Miller made the video in response to a question about how much she would ‘typically let [a speeding car] go before you would pull them over’.
She said that every police officer has a different way of approaching speeding, and claimed to ‘have discretion’ when it comes to how much leeway she gives.
Some officers pull you over right away

The US-based officer said, “I know plenty of officers that will literally pull you over – if the speed limit is 25 – they will pull you over for going 27.”
“That’s personally not me, but technically that is speeding, so if the speed limit is 25 and you’re going 27, technically you are speeding.”
She gives people a ‘grace period’

Explaining how much leeway she gives to speeding drivers, Miller said in the viral clip that she likes to ‘give people a grace period.’
“So, I know a lot of the officers that do the five miles over, like if it’s 25 and you’re going 30,” she said.
She gives a 10 mile leeway

Miller shared, “Personally, I don’t know if I’m going to get in trouble for saying this online, but I’m going to say it anyway, I do 10.”
“So if the speed limit is 25, and you’re going up to 35, I kind of give you that wiggle room.”
But anything over that is too much

The officer then emphasized that for ‘anything over 35, I’ll pull you over’ before joking about giving so much grace.
“My captain watches these videos so please don’t get mad at me, I’m just being honest,” she said.
She advised people to generally be cautious about it
“So, at the end of the day, every police officer has their own discretion of what they’re going to stop you for and what they don’t stop for,” Miller said.
“Technically the speed limit is 25 mph, anything over that is considered speeding, so just be cautious, be mindful of your speeds when you’re driving around because, as I said, every police officer is different.”
