A UK man, Aidan Rowan , had a surreal experience last year when lightning struck him in his living room while playing on the PlayStation. He shared his story on Instagram to describe his experience.
Got Help From His Husband
The 33-year-old lived with his husband, Aaron, whom he asked for a towel after his ordeal saying he didn’t understand what was going on. Aaron realized what happened and rushed Rowan to the hospital.
Getting To The Hospital
Rowan said he heard a loud crack and “heavy jolting sensation” but didn’t realize he was getting “Thor’ed” until he got to the hospital. The medics revealed to him that he left his window open so the lightning struck through it.
Heatwave In The UK
They further hypothesized that the lightning couldn’t strike the ground because of the UK’s heatwave so it bounced off the water (from the rain) and entered the nearest window, Rowan’s own.
Playing ‘Stray’

The survivor joked about experiencing Stray in real life as he was playing the game when lightning struck. Stray on PlayStation is a simulated game where players save a cat stuck in a thunderstorm.
The Aftermath

Rowan was a good sport about the experience (he could afford to) since he survived with headaches, sore muscles, and burn stripes on the affected arm.
Embracing The Experience
It’s been months since the incident and the artist covered up the scars with a cool lightning tattoo.
Nothing To Fear

Although his friends and family were worried when the incident first occurred, his relaxed demeanor assured them there was nothing to fear.
Becoming Thor
So, they began teasing him about being Thor. It didn’t help his case that he’s a cosplayer.
Could It Be Artificial Lightning?

There’s an ongoing conspiracy theory about the lightning strikes in the UK because Rowan isn’t the only victim.
It’s More Common Than You Think
A US report per the National Weather Service reveals lightning strikes happen more often than people are willing to admit. It said an average of 47 people die from its strikes annually.
Accidental Deaths From Lightning
Last year, the UK and US recorded more than one “freak accident” death from lightning including one near the White House.
Find Shelter In Thunderstorms
Experts advise people to find secure shelter during thunderstorms and take thunderous claps as warnings of an impending lightning.
Secure Windows And Wires

For people like Rowan who experience the incident in their homes, they’re advised to shut windows during storms and avoid electrical conduits if possible.
Surviving 2022

Rowan shared a collage of his 2022 experience with the lightning strike at the center saying he survived the year.
